I'm thrilled to have earned my Cohort 6 Fellow credential from Climatebase! I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to have gone through this experience and achieve this milestone.
Some of the subjects (just to name a few) taught were in:
⚡️The Energy sector
🚙Transportation
🌺Nature Based Solutions
🏢Corporate Sustainability
♻️Circular Economy
…and so much more!
🧠 One of the more shocking things I learned was about the massive energy footprint AI systems like ChatGPT and Claude have... Thinking about all that demand for this technology and the actual energy supply that will have impact on our grid is quite staggering.
At the same time, I saw some incredible people working on innovations looking to combat these challenges. I was also able to make some amazing connections with professionals in the tech, education, agriculture, and energy space - each bringing unique perspectives to climate solutions.
This experience also solidified where I want to go in my professional career. While I will always be a product professional, I've discovered there a millions of opportunities to weave sustainability into wherever I may end up. My capstone project (SEE HERE: https://lnkd.in/gwYQbAje), focused on developing a citizen science platform for bird conservation, which I believe embodies this intersection of tech and nature. I'm excited to see the potential of this capstone in the near future and hopefully one day build a community of citizen scientists committed to protecting vulnerable bird populations.
None of this would have been possible without the exemplary individuals who guided me throughout this journey. I'm deeply grateful to Neil Yeoh for his visionary leadership in climate education, George Unc for his invaluable guidance on my capstone project, and Warren Hart for helping me refine my professional narrative. The entire Climatebase team - Vesselina Apostolova, Kendall Jenkins, Lucas Camacho, Evan Hynes - created an incredibly supportive environment. And a huge thank you to my capstone colleagues Caroline Wu and Ben D..
The past 12 weeks have shown me that while the climate crisis is urgent, it's not insurmountable. With innovation, collaboration, and determination, we can create meaningful change. This isn't the end of my climate journey - it's just the beginning.
