The creative economy includes audiovisual products, design, media, music, performing arts, publishing and visual arts. An evolving concept by nature, it involves goods and services based on creativity and intellectual capital as primary inputs. With exports of these products growing strongly in recent years, robust regulatory frameworks are necessary to ensure technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) benefit everyone and foster a competitive and sustainable creative economy. That’s the main message from the Creative Economy Outlook 2024 released by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Find out more: https://ow.ly/OEhM50Szr0i

Today, I spent a good few hours geeking out about "directional speakers." These cool hypersonic sound systems shoot out super-focused sound beams, so in places like museums, you can hear an exhibit only when you're standing in the right spot. It's a mind-blowing example of creative thinking. If we only consider how audible sound waves work, having this experience seems impossible, almost like it is breaking the laws of physics. These speakers work by using two ultrasonic waves (not audible to human) that mix together to create sound in specific areas, making for a magical experience. Let's draw some inspiration from this for other challenges in life and business.

Interesting new independent ARC Panel. Heavily top level (VC.Deputy VC) level representation, good coverage of disciplines (only the full range of performing arts is a very large segment that is omitted) and application areas, several innovation track records shown. One does wonder how the fast emerging transdisciplinary areas crossing multiple fields will be handled from other than a senior management perspective. In spite of a good range of specialities I always found them the most difficult to review as an IntReader. Time will tell.

Our theme for March is PERSPECTIVE. It was chosen by our Fargo chapter and illustrated by Fred Gaye Wremeo. Every creative act is an attempt to share a unique perspective on some slice of the world. What you see — and how you see it — shapes your beliefs. So, what’s your point of view? And how are you putting it into your work? What was the last piece of music, writing, illustration, or film that opened a new window on the world for you? Today, it feels like we are at another precipice with AI generated images and video. We don’t know how this rapidly emerging artistic tech will shape our perspectives. The machine is already capable of evoking real emotions. But only we can understand those feelings. Because seeing someone else’s point of view is uniquely human. Considering another perspective fosters empathy. And we all desperately need more empathy. Remember, looking at a problem from multiple angles generates more possible solutions. So, change your perspective and you can change your world. Registration link in the comment below 👇

Desperate for a ray of light on a gloomy day? The new La Monnaie season 24-25 has finally been unveiled! Discover our upcoming productions → www.lamonnaiedemunt.be ━━━━━ Breaking down boundaries, facing what seems different, seeking connection: it is all a matter of daring and doing. Belief in that human resolve also permeates our season campaign. While last year we had an AI machine generate images, this year we called on Antonin Waterkeyn, an artist who involves AI in his creative process. It is hard to imagine a better image of our relation to this new technology: by continuing to engage with it while at the same time reserving a greater role for the human curator, we are again making room for artistic authenticity and autonomy. As such, we are returning to what keeps the FATE and DARE axis in balance: the courage to face that destiny, while also investing fully in the human emotion needed to keep having an impact.
