Today, I was honoured to participate in the workshop on integrating the URVIS number into digital solutions, organised by the UN ECE Inland Transportation Committee, Working Party on Rail Transport. During the session, we explored the significant benefits of digitalization and asset tracking, drawing from successful practices in the intermodal and maritime industries. Notable examples discussed included BIC - Bureau International des Containers BoxTech, the BIC Global Container Geofence Library, and Smart Containers, among others. Knowing the location of your assets is a key element of modern business, whether you are a creditor, operator, infrastructure provider, or cargo owner. Widely accepted identification systems, when integrated into IoT solutions, significantly increase the benefits for all stakeholders. It was fascinating to engage with representatives from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company where we underscored the critical importance of interoperability between inland and overseas transportation and the need to prioritize safety, security, data protection, and data sharing.
