Melbourne’s newest train is rolling off the production line! The X’Trapolis 2.0 project has just hit a huge milestone, with the first of 25 modern, accessible trains completed ahead of a rigorous testing schedule. The new fleet is being manufactured at Alstom train manufacturing facility in Ballarat, using at least 60% local content and supporting up to 750 jobs across the local supply chain. Trains will start testing on the network over the coming months as we get ready to take passengers from late 2025. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gsAiNUV5

Over 37 million regional trips taken on trains and coaches since the fare cap was introduced. Travel has now become more affordable, helping ease cost of living pressures. Return tickets to major destinations such as Geelong (previously up to $27.60), Ballarat (previously up to $45.60), and Traralgon (previously up to $64.40) are now capped at the daily metro fare of $10.60. We're building strong communities in Melbourne's growth areas. A new $150 million funding round of the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) fund is opening this year to boost infrastructure across Melbourne’s outer suburbs. Through contributions from developers, the GAIC supports projects to create communities where families can live and thrive. This round will focus on better transport options, from more services to road improvements, making it easier for Victorians to get around. Warrior Woman Lane, Vlajnic Lane, and Pauline Powell Walk are just a few places named after incredible Victorians. These names honour a First Peoples' artist and advocate, a founder of the Fitzroy Serbia Soccer Club, and a Rye community legend. As Victoria grows, we'll need over 6,000 new names for streets, parks, and community facilities in the next 3 years. We want these names to celebrate the people who make our communities thrive. We’re calling on all Victorians to nominate those who've made a significant impact, especially women, First Peoples, and individuals from multicultural communities. Your nominations will be added to a council name bank for future naming opportunities. Let's celebrate our local heroes! Nominate now: https://lnkd.in/g56VeFV6

Over one million Victorians have downloaded a Digital Driver Licence. By 2025 learner and probationary drivers will also be able to access theirs via VicRoads myVicRoads app or the Service Victoria app. If your business or organisation checks licences for age or ID, you'll start to see younger people showing you their phone instead of a card. The good news is that checking a digital licence is a secure, quick and simple way to get info when you need it. Physical licence cards will still be around. You can accept them until you're ready to check digital. In Nov, we’re hosting online info sessions for organisations that work with and verify digital licences. For a road worker, the road is their office. But sadly, they often face physical and verbal abuse from speeding, distracted, or impatient drivers. Our new campaign highlights how our actions impact the physical and mental wellbeing of these essential workers. Please slow down. Please be respectful. Road workers are people too. https://lnkd.in/gXmadYi2

A 10-year plan is in motion to create homes with spacious backyards across Melbourne’s outer suburbs. The plan aims to create 180,000 homes in greenfield areas, giving families room to grow. The plan highlights: - 27 new greenfield areas in Melbourne’s north, south-east and west, ensuring homes in well-serviced, green and connected communities. - Streamlined planning processes to make it easier for builders to start projects sooner. - A dedicated service for industry and councils to address zoning and development challenges. This will help ensure future communities are balanced between inner-city living and spacious outer suburbs, offering a home for every Victorian.
