Brand awareness isn't "being known." Nor are there many people I know of using this definition. There's a lot of straw-manning of the brand/long term/awareness position that's very odd and pretty annoying because none of the strong claims ever get critiqued; only ever the most ridiculous versions of them do. Critiquing a position is encouraged, but if you're going to, at least critique the actual position! For the record, awareness = brand PLUS category awareness. It's at the base layer of the awareness 👉🏻 salience 👉🏻 availability pyramid. - Yes, it has massive financial impact - Yes, this is demonstrable both theoretically and practically - Yes, it's measurable, and not just with $$$ tools - Yes, you should do short-term direct response - No, when you're small you shouldn't spend all of your money on high production TV ads - No, the above doesn't mean you can't do out of market advertising on a budget - Yes, marketing should be held to incremental value Can we be done with this now?
