Every 10 minutes, one species on planet Earth goes extinct. Experts believe that the current rate of species extinction is between 1’000 and 10’000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. This mass extinction, known as the 6th extinction crisis, is the first one caused by a single species – humans. CONSERVATION NEWS — Experts are advocating for the recognition of freshwater and marine oxygen levels as a new planetary boundary with recent research highlighting urgent concerns over aquatic deoxygenation. Planetary boundaries mark crucial thresholds where Earth’s systems risk irreversible changes—affecting species, ecosystems, and human health. The new paper emphasises the threat that deoxygenation poses and the need to acknowledges its critical interlinkages with other boundaries and to focus international monitoring, research and policy efforts. 🌊 Despite our planet's surface being over 71% water, less than 1% of climate finance goes into protecting our oceans. One key challenge is the general lack of data to inform conservation and restoration efforts. So we've helped Whales and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) turn to satellite space-tech and #AI. Researchers can now discover, analyse and report on whale conservation in weeks rather than decades, and in areas they previously couldn't access, allowing more critical information to reach decision makers! 🐳 Read more ➡ https://deloi.tt/3T3eLTd

400 million hectares of forest and woodlands have been burning each year since 2012. The data compiled by Our World in Data is alarming and scary. What would be left of our planet's forest 100 years from now? How much of wildlife will go extinct? How much our biodiversity will be gone? What does it mean for life on our planet? We ForestSAT AS work with Satellite Earth Observation and AI to plan preventive action to stop wildfires from happening a year in advance. We can do that just like early detection of disease through scans can help preventive cure and care , health check of forests with satellites and early intervention to remove fuels, do controlled burns, restore water bodies, thin forest, plant new native resilient species prevents mega- wildfires.

6moThank you for highlighting this crucial issue. While the statistics are concerning, they also present a call to action. By increasing awareness and championing conservation efforts, we can unite to protect our planet's biodiversity. Through sustained commitment and collaboration, we have the potential to slow and even reverse this trend, safeguarding Earth's incredible diversity for future generations. Let's work together to make a positive impact and ensure a thriving natural world.
