The idea that Ireland will have slashed its emmissions by 50% in 2030 is pie in the sky nonsense .The first offshore wind farms will not be established till 2035 ,largely due to the ineptidude of minister Ryan the green minister for the environment .Until Ireland has offshore wind energy at scale C02 emmissions will only reduce by 25% by 2030 at most .So the climate change targets that are in legislation will need to be amended to 50% carbon neutral by 2040 and zero carbon by 2060 .These new targets are achievable .

Türkiye is ranked 53rd in this year’s CCPI, placing it among the lowest ranked countries. It receives a medium rating in Renewable Energy, low in GHG Emissions and Energy Use, and very low in Climate Policy. Türkiye is low in the CCPI because of its inadequate climate policies, lack of consideration of renewable energy projects’ effects on the local population, and an insufficient Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). South Australia’s new climate bill will legally require the state to generate enough renewable energy to cover all of its annual electricity needs from 2027. The Climate Change and Greenhouse Emissions Reductions (Targets) Amendment Bill will obligate the state to slash its greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, and to reach net zero by 2050. Home to the city of Adelaide, South Australia has already more than halved its emissions since 2005 thanks to a rapid shift to wind, solar, and battery technologies, which now meet around 70% of its annual power needs. The state is a leader in rooftop solar adoption, with one in every two homes having their own systems. In the week to Monday, 2 September 2024 — the last of winter — South Australia offered a glimpse of its future. Renewable generation exceeded the state’s electricity needs by 5%, with the excess exported to neighbouring states. https://lnkd.in/dA6pkRsV

Total net greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union dropped by 8% last year, marking significant progress towards climate neutrality for the EU. The huge drop was led by a significant decline in coal use and growth of renewable energy sources and supported by reduced energy consumption across Europe, according to estimated figures included in the latest European Environment Agency ‘Trends and Projections’ report published today. The annual EEA check-up on EU progress on its energy and climate targets stresses that EU Member States will need to sustain this rate of progress to achieve Europe’s climate and energy targets. Focusing on the binding national climate targets under the ESR, most countries' emissions remain below the trajectory, although an increasing number of Member States are falling behind. In 2022, emissions in the effort-sharing sectors were lower than the respective AEAs for all except eight Member States (Croatia, Cyprus, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta and Romania). Preliminary estimates indicate that this number will rise to ten in 2023. Regarding renewable energy, 21 of the 27 EU Member States saw an increase in their renewable energy shares between 2022 and 2023. Austria, Lithuania and Spain topped the list, having increased their shares by two percentage points or more in 2023. In contrast, those of Croatia, Luxembourg and Sweden decreased by roughly two percentage points over the same period. Find the report here: https://lnkd.in/dZb8Wd9k

Small Island Developing States, a distinct group of 39 states and 18 associate members, are making efforts to promote the blue economy as they possess enormous potential for renewable energy relying on the sea. Experts predict that switching to renewables will help SIDS countries decarbonize power generation as an appropriate option for islands to cut their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, fulfill Paris Agreement pledges and contribute to the global fight against climate change. https://lnkd.in/eAE-MauB

Romania's updated NECP received some improvements, but still lacks a clear path to decarbonisation. Much of the 'transformation' is based on fossil gas, while the renewable ambition is not enough to reach the EU target. More in the blogpost: https://lnkd.in/g2-ANFrC

The goals of the Paris Climate Agreement are not unachievable, but decisive action must be taken now, according to a new analysis by BloombergNEF. Greener power generation could make the most significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions: renewable energy capacity needs to triple by 2030 to get to net zero. This would leave more time to tackle other sectors that are more difficult to convert, such as steel production and aviation. According to BloombergNEF, significantly more investment is needed to accelerate the #energytransition, and the challenges include the large amounts of land required for wind and solar projects and for mines to extract the necessary #rawmaterials. #climate #renewableenergy #mining
