According to a new report by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, energy-related emissions in Ireland decreased last year to their lowest level in three decades, but the rate of decline is insufficient to fulfil climate targets. This week we look at the clean energy policies included within the King's Speech, the Climate Change Committee's 2024 Progress Report, the announcement of a new publicly owned renewable energy developer in Wales, and more. Please do share this with your contacts. To do so, you can use the embedded LinkedIn link at the base of the website article to share this week's publication directly on your profile. Below is some suggested wording to accompany your post: In this week's #EnergyTransition we look at: ⚡ The clean energy policies included within the King's Speech; ⚡ The Climate Change Committee's 2024 Progress Report; ⚡ A new publicly owned renewable energy developer in Wales; ⚡ NIA reporting on the UK far exceeding power import records; and ⚡ ESO "pathways" to net zero. #Netzero #EnergyTransition #King'sSpeech #CCC #energy-developer #ESO #pathways

Canada's Drive to Decarbonize Canada is the world's second highest producer of greenhouse gas per capita... and our cold climate is no excuse for that figure... almost double the footprint of other northern countries such as Finland. The country is however still working toward a net zero goal by 2050 and energy storage for the grid will play a key support role in the transition to more sustainable energy sources. #cleanenergy #cleantech #SDG #NetZero #renewableenergy

Türkiye is ranked 53rd in this year’s CCPI, placing it among the lowest ranked countries. It receives a medium rating in Renewable Energy, low in GHG Emissions and Energy Use, and very low in Climate Policy. Türkiye is low in the CCPI because of its inadequate climate policies, lack of consideration of renewable energy projects’ effects on the local population, and an insufficient Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The idea that Ireland will have slashed its emmissions by 50% in 2030 is pie in the sky nonsense .The first offshore wind farms will not be established till 2035 ,largely due to the ineptidude of minister Ryan the green minister for the environment .Until Ireland has offshore wind energy at scale C02 emmissions will only reduce by 25% by 2030 at most .So the climate change targets that are in legislation will need to be amended to 50% carbon neutral by 2040 and zero carbon by 2060 .These new targets are achievable .

The Climate Emergency – Two Countries Compared Spain has doubled it’s renewable energy source since 2008, due to significant investment in infrastructure and reduced demand from consumers. Solar energy capacity has increased by a factor of eight since 2008. That is generally good news, although reduction in prices to consumers may have a negative impact on investment by large energy companies. Overall though it appears to be positive. https://lnkd.in/eKTryWf8 Meanwhile in Scotland, the government has missed yet another annual target (ditto the rest of the UK) and abandoned the annual reporting cycle. Infrastructure investment is nowhere close to what is required if Net Zero is to be achieved by 2045, and domestic transport emissions continue to increase. https://lnkd.in/e5ZTr6DF Why is Scotland so far behind? The political will is not focussed on climate change and the impacts appear to be ignored. I would really like to hear the views of our LinkedIn community about this, including any thoughts about how the potential cataclysmic outcome can be avoided. Total net greenhouse gas emissions in the EU dropped by 8 % last year. The drop was lead by a significant decline in coal use and growth of renewable energy sources and supported by reduced energy consumption. In 2023, EU total net greenhouse gas emission decreased to 37% below 1990 levels. #greenhousegases #EU #energy #greentransition

The world’s biggest polluter can cut its carbon dioxide emissions by at least 30% by 2035 by continuing trends in the power sector and extending efforts in other industries, researchers including Lauri Myllyvirta and Belinda Schaepe said in a report released Thursday. They urged China’s policymakers to seize on the momentum of its clean energy roll-out as they prepare to submit new climate targets to the United Nations by February, alongside other countries. The country’s embrace of electric vehicles, as well as wind and solar power, means it may have already peaked emissions more than a half-decade ahead of schedule. In addition to this success, the government should also reform policies to reduce emissions in other industrial sectors and ensure energy demand growth eases as expected, the researchers said. #China #renewable #energy #climate #energyTransition Click and see more https://lnkd.in/ehC4p-Xs

https://lnkd.in/ezfRxquK Salix is this eligible for PSDS4? If only! It's disheartening to hear that the UK is considering steps backward in its net-zero policy to address the surging electricity demand. This decision underscores the urgent need for more robust, long-term planning to ensure that we stay on track towards achieving net zero as soon as possible. Sustainable energy transition requires consistent commitment and forward-thinking strategies to overcome challenges while staying true to our environmental goals. It's imperative that policymakers prioritise investments in renewable energy sources and implement effective measures to manage electricity demand without compromising our climate ambitions. We must push for proactive solutions that accelerate our journey towards a net-zero future. #netzero #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #climatechangesolutions #greenenergy Eddisons

A 51% renewables in the gross final energy consumption. And 93% on electricity consumption. These are two new targets in Portugal’s NECP (National Energy and Climate Plan). 📌 The new centre-right government, set in April 2024, has inevitably “broken” the deadline for surrender to Brussels, accumulating a different delay also on public consultation. 🔎 Like the previous version, the text provides for 65 regional lines and 297 measures, which define the direction of the energy transition “in favour of the country’s strategic interests”. 👉 The revised drafts include the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% from 2005 levels by 2030, a target set by the previous Socialist government a year ago, and the 2045 target for carbon neutrality by 2045. ⬇️ Link in the first comment #RinnovabiliNET #environmnent #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainablity #sustainabledevelopment
