Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) equips individuals and organizations with the skills to identify and assist someone who is developing a mental health challenge or is experiencing a mental health crisis such as panic attacks, bouts of depression, difficulties with expatriate adjustment or the after effects of trauma or bereavement. Just as with physical first aid, in all situations the goal is to provide support until appropriate professional help arrives. The central aim is to improve the Mental Health Literacy (MHL) of individuals and organizations, defined as the ability to be sensitively aware and respond with skill to people experiencing mental and emotional challenges, and facilitate appropriate action. Learn more about MHFA in our informational sessions this month, get certified in MHFA or refresh your skills if you’ve taken the course more than 3 years ago. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say they wished they had known how to help someone sooner. Whether it’s a colleague experiencing burnout, a friend battling anxiety, or a loved one struggling with depression… You never know when you’ll be the person who can make a difference. But here’s the thing. You can’t help if you don’t have the tools. That’s why I’m encouraging you to take the step and get certified in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). It’s not just about learning facts—it’s about being prepared when someone needs you most. I get it. It’s tough. But what if you had the tools to step in with confidence? What if you knew exactly how to recognize when someone is in crisis and how to guide them to the right support? That’s what MHFA training gives you. Take a moment. Think about the people in your life. You could be the one who steps in and makes sure they get the help they need. I’ve trained over 3,000 people in MHFA. Because being there for someone in their darkest moment is a power we all deserve to have. Shockingly, despite the prevalence of mental health issues in the UK, only 1 in 10 people receive adequate first aid training to support someone experiencing a mental health crisis. Neglecting mental health first aid is akin to ignoring a crucial aspect of overall well-being, perpetuating stigma and hindering timely intervention for those in distress. How can we foster a culture of mental health first aid in the UK, ensuring that individuals are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to support each other through mental health challenges? www.purpledogltd.co.uk 01484 546780 [email protected] #mentalhealth #hse

⛑️Mental Health First Aid ⚕️ This month we're equipping our team with the knowledge and skills to support our participants, and each other, during a mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. We're learning about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem and the treatments and supports available. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about, initiate a conversation about those concerns and offer initial support. Excellent Course!
Helping organisations thrive through inclusive wellbeing, learning, and belonging | Workplace Wellbeing Consultant | L&D Strategist | DEIB Advocate
Why train in mental health first aid? When it comes to mental health, we are not always confident in knowing how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue or where to go for support. Mental Health First Aid, or MHFA, is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and provide help on a first-aid basis. Used alone, it will not reduce poor mental health or mental ill-health. The training needs to be a part of your broader wellbeing strategy. I am delivering a MHFA England Adult mental health first aid course face to face on 11th and 12th November this is a two day course from 9am-5pm in Milton Keynes please get in touch to find out more and secure your space. Nono not a wonky peace sign. Though I do wish you a calm and peaceful week…! It’s actually day two of our latest Mental Health First Aid course ⭐️ On the second and final day of our time together, we’ll be covering challenging topics like: 🧠 depression 🧠 first aid for suicide 🧠 psychosis 🧠 how to make effective use of the knowledge and skills learned You might think you’ll never have to use the things you’ve learnt, but sadly with 1 in 6 working adults experiencing a diagnosable mental health condition year on year (and it’s not going down), you are in fact much more likely to need to use your mental health first aid skills than physical. #MentalHealthAtWork #MentalHealthFirstAid #WorkplaceWellbeing
