A green hospitality property is one that aims to reduce its environmental impact and carbon footprint. While there are no set requirements they must fulfill to be labelled "green," companies establish policies, adhere to processes, sell items, and run their operations in a way that minimizes their environmental effect. Implementing green practices in hotels has various advantages, including financial savings from lower energy and water use, increased environmental sustainability, and a favourable brand image that attracts eco-conscious customers. But right now, the challenges of entering the green hospitality industry include a lack of understanding of the concept of sustainability, greenwashing, large amounts of waste released into the environment, high energy consumption, high water consumption, working in silos, and a lack of urgency in addressing ESG issues. These are the most difficult aspects of transitioning to green hospitality practices. So let's look at new ideas and best practices for reducing our environmental impact while offering outstanding visitor experiences. Together, we can create a more sustainable future for the hotel sector. I said it two weeks ago and I'll say it again "Capturing sustainability data is important, but it's how you use that data to build your strategy and communicate to different stakeholder groups that drives real change." (See comments for full article) @The Independent Hotel Show, I saw many suppliers flex their sustainability muscles. It was great to see Primal Soles convince hoteliers that their new net-positive sustainable hotel slipper is the future. Well done Jeremy E. . We also found out that even wallpaper can be more sustainable! I joined a session on the new rules of ESG with Colliers and Greenkey, reinforcing the importance of new policy and data capture. I caught Zoku, The Usual and The Social Hub discussion's on navigating the new types of customer - great to hear of the new super sustainable properties and the measurement of social impact work that is possible. A good reminder from Laura Ghitoi that there is potentially some impact that you'll never know, but there's a lot that you can see. Thanks and well done to The Independent Hotel Show for a really great conference program where I learned lots about steps to more sustainable hotels and met some interesting sustainability-led suppliers which are good to know for sustainable swaps for properties. And all a 10-minute bike ride from home. #sustainability #hospitality #HybridHospitality #IndependentHotelShow
