👏 Great example from this London showing how sustainability initiatives can boost both environmental impact and business performance. By appointing a sustainability manager in 2023, the hotel implemented ESG strategies that quickly paid for themselves. Its efforts, such as waste reduction, green energy use, and encouraging staff cycling, earned the hotel a Boutique Hotelier Award and financial savings. 🌿 With growing guest demand for eco-friendly stays and proven cost savings from sustainability initiatives, how is your hotel going to integrate robust ESG practices in 2025? By appointing a sustainability manager? Achieving a sustainability certifications such as Green Globe Certification? Or both? #sustainability #hotelindustry #sustainabletourism #greenglobe

Hotels, the great question: To be (sustainable) or not to be? 🌳 Europe is on a transformative journey toward sustainability, and for hotel owners, managers, and operators, the intersection of evolving ESG regulations and market trends presents both challenges and opportunities. Two of the most impactful drivers in this landscape are the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Regulations Are Not Just Rules; They’re a Roadmap The CSRD mandates detailed ESG reporting, requiring transparency on environmental, social, and governance impacts. While initially daunting, this framework is a powerful tool for improving operations and attracting ESG-conscious investors. The hotels, as a sector directly contributing to global emissions, plays a pivotal role in meeting these expectations. The EPBD complements this by targeting building performance, pushing for a 16% reduction in energy consumption for hotels by 2030. This means not only improving energy efficiency but also aligning operations with net-zero ambitions. Failing to meet these standards doesn’t just invite penalties—it risks rendering assets less competitive in an increasingly green market. Clients are demanding sustainable hotels already! 🌸 A recent Accor study revealed European travelers are prioritizing sustainability, with 73% considering environmental impact in their choices. Just as travelers demand greener travel options, tenants are beginning to demand greener buildings. For the hospitality world, this is a moment of alignment: meeting regulatory requirements while catering to market demands. Stakeholders are seeking energy-efficient buildings that lower operational costs, improve tenant satisfaction, and comply with regulations. From Compliance to Opportunity 🐳 The shift to sustainability is no longer optional—it’s a strategic imperative. Aligning with CSRD reporting and EPBD performance standards can: 🌴 Attract Investors: ESG-focused funds are prioritizing compliant assets. 🌵 Enhance Tenant Demand: Tenants increasingly prefer efficient, environmentally friendly buildings. 🌾 Reduce Risks: Compliance avoids penalties and ensures assets remain viable in the market. For hotel owners, this is not just about ticking boxes. Imagine reducing a building’s operational costs by 20% and increasing its value—all while contributing to making your clients happy. The question for the hotel sector: Are you ready to turn good intentions into impactful action? Are you Marriott Hotels Hilton Hotels & Resorts Palladium Hotel Group Barceló Hotel Group Accor? ...and many others... We, at Evolution Sustainability Group, can help you if the answer is yes...

HOSPITALITY NEWS #885 How Hotels Can Minimize Their Environmental Impact: Best Practices and Innovations The hospitality industry is stepping up by finding clever ways to shrink its environmental footprint. As hotel owners and guests recognize the importance of sustainability in the industry, they are taking advantage of innovative technology, products, and processes to provide visitors with an awesome stay while reducing environmental impact. Let's check out why sustainability matters for hotels and some cool new ideas that are shaking things up in the industry. Understanding the Environmental Impact of Hotels As hotels look to ensure guest comfort by ensuring things like air-conditioned or heated rooms, always-on appliances like minibars and TVs and frequent laundering for a comfortable and hygienic stay, it means that the occupation of a typical hotel room can use more power in 24 hours than an average home would use in a week. Another element that is common when looking at hotel waste are the guest amenities (such as toiletries and cosmetics) that are provided in single-use packaging. Much of this waste ends up in landfills and can be avoided by finding alternatives in renewable or recyclable packaging. Sources: HN

A green hospitality property is one that aims to reduce its environmental impact and carbon footprint. While there are no set requirements they must fulfill to be labelled "green," companies establish policies, adhere to processes, sell items, and run their operations in a way that minimizes their environmental effect. Implementing green practices in hotels has various advantages, including financial savings from lower energy and water use, increased environmental sustainability, and a favourable brand image that attracts eco-conscious customers. But right now, the challenges of entering the green hospitality industry include a lack of understanding of the concept of sustainability, greenwashing, large amounts of waste released into the environment, high energy consumption, high water consumption, working in silos, and a lack of urgency in addressing ESG issues. These are the most difficult aspects of transitioning to green hospitality practices. So let's look at new ideas and best practices for reducing our environmental impact while offering outstanding visitor experiences. Together, we can create a more sustainable future for the hotel sector.
