One of the key takeaways was the transformative role of science, AI, and health governance in shaping the future of healthcare over the next decade. The potential of these advancements to revolutionize healthcare delivery, improve outcomes, and promote equity cannot be overstated. 🚀 Together, we tackled global challenges head-on, exchanged pioneering solutions, and laid the groundwork for innovations that will drive a sustainable, tech-enabled future in healthcare. [Digital Determinants of Health] Last month, I joined the Digital Transformations for Health Lab Regional Youth Champion Roundtable Discussion of Digital Determinants of Health with the lead authors of the Lancet series. The purpose of the meeting was to engage youth voices and gather our feedback on emerging ideas of the Digital Determinants of Health (DDoH). As the world becomes increasingly digitized, the impact of technology on health is becoming more apparent, leading to the emergence of the term DDoH. During the roundtable, we discussed several topics, including what questions should be asked about technology affecting health, what should be included in DDoH's definition etc. One recurrent theme is digital equity - digital health for all cannot be achieved without equitable access to internet, devices, and literacy. It was such an engaging session, and as always, I shared my perspectives, and learned so much from my peers. I'm very excited to announce that a research collaboration I'm a part of, has had our research protocol accepted for publication by JMIR Publications (Journal of Medical Internet Research)! This work, led by the University of Melbourne's Centre for Digital Transformation of Health involves collaborators from across the globe. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid development of digital health technologies uncovered a significant issue – that of #digitalhealthinequity. We are becoming increasingly aware that many individuals will face barriers in accessing, utilising, and benefiting equally from health technologies. Our objective with this scoping review is to explore validated tools and approaches that can mitigate digital health inequities, ensuring equitable access, outcomes, and inclusion in the development of digital health technologies. We aim to offer actionable insights for healthcare professionals, health providers, digital health experts, and technology developers on how to best prioritise equity throughout the digital health innovation journey. What a great 3 days at the Health Innovation Community conference, hosted by Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH)! Some take-aways: 💥 A CSIRO project showed how small-number, detailed qualitative research can sit comfortably alongside high-number quantitative research. This means small outfits (like Xstitch Health!) can meaningfully contribute to the research world. 💥 We love the concept of “facts per decision”, explained by John Doulis: Data is exponentially increasing the number of “facts” available (eg genetic information) per clinical decision. As the number of facts moves beyond human cognitive capacity, an acceptable standard of care must address data synthesis. 💥 Aasha Cowey’s slide on “fund teams not projects” resonates with the Xstitch aim of creating a new environment for clinicians to work more effectively.
