First, you do NOT need experience to land big clients. But what happens if you get 'em? Do you really know your onion? Truthfully, most clients are after experience (mostly, over 2 years). And if you do NOT meet up with the requirements, you do NOT get hired. Frustrating! However, do I blame 'em? Listen. I do NOT blame most clients, keyword: most, if they are like this. Why? Because there's little proof in the marketing world, why again? Because everyone claims to write good copy! So here's what I do: I write good copy(s). And then package 'em in my Google docs. And I released 'em when I cold pitch a client. (Note: I ALWAYS make sure my sample is related to my work). For instance: As a direct response marketer, I write samples related to direct response marketing. Understood?

But where are the numbers to show this impact? Scan reports from Salesforce, McKinsey, or the AMA, and you’ll find little to no data on critical metrics: 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙟𝙤𝙗𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮? Without these insights, it’s no wonder marketing continues to struggle for the respect it deserves. The more I speak with marketing leadership, the more I realize that too many are fixated on maintaining the status quo rather than embracing innovation, AI, or data visualization to drive marketing forward. This focus on tradition is holding the industry back. It’s no surprise that top marketing talent is both hard to attract and harder to keep—the most innovative minds are drowning in outdated practices. If marketing leaders truly want to attract, develop, and retain top talent, the industry’s standards and expectations need to evolve. ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ’ꜱ ᴍᴀʀᴋᴇᴛɪɴɢ ᴅᴇᴍᴀɴᴅꜱ ᴀ ʙʟᴇɴᴅ ᴏꜰ ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛɪᴠɪᴛʏ, ꜱᴛʀᴀᴛᴇɢɪᴄ ᴠɪꜱɪᴏɴ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴅᴀᴛᴀ-ᴅʀɪᴠᴇɴ ᴘʀᴇᴄɪꜱɪᴏɴ. Instead of looking for someone to copy last year’s budget, let’s seek marketers who can accurately price campaigns based on real-time cost analysis. Instead of settling for "safe" copy, we should push for messaging that resonates authentically with audiences, grounded in the latest trends and insights. Marketing leadership must prioritize and promote innovation—both in skill sets and strategy. The reality is that most don’t. I might pass out. If you’re a marketer with great ideas and a vision for the industry, I suggest you hustle to get your name out there. Apply for roles with impact, at smaller companies, and do the work that matters. The problem with power is that too many of the wrong people have it. The future isn’t coming; it’s here, and nothing makes it more obvious that people don’t care about marketing than the fact that they just don’t do it. I recently saw the launch of a new company with no promotion, just an announcement. That’s crazy.

Are you ready for the truth? It’s not going to be an easy one! But people read what you write because they have a problem and need the solution you offer. If you can’t solve their problem in your writing, then you’ve wasted their time and attention. The same goes for email marketing. My audience will only click my emails when they see solutions to a pressing problem. After all, isn’t that the whole purpose? You can fix this in 4 unique ways: ♣︎ Firstly, start with the problem. If you jump straight to the solution, they’ll swipe away. Why? Because no one likes a “know-it-all.” ♣︎ Secondly, write about the result! Take them through the journey of how you secured that client, job, or offer. ♣︎ Thirdly, go straight to the point and tell them what to do. Don’t overwhelm them with options. ♣︎Lastly, give them insight, not just information. Explore the details beneath the surface. I hope this was helpful???
