I’m an introvert, how do I network? I'm going to Launch Party, the ultimate celebration of Calgary’s most promising Tech Startups and the grand finale of Innovation Week YYC 2024. It's going to be an awesome way to meet fellow entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts including the Top 10 Selection Committee of Haley Jabusch, ✨Joella A. , and Matt Elliott. But when you walk into a conference room full of people, it can be intimidating. Here's what I do... I’m an introvert, how do I network? Introverts (like me) have an advantage in networking because we naturally have the right skills. We’re good listeners, we remember details, we ask good questions, and follow-up. What’s the best way to network at a conference? In short, be prepared. Before the event, find out who’s going, ask your friends, look up the sponsor companies, use LinkedIn to make connections. Then arrange a meet and chat one of the presentation topics - it’s easy to connect over an interesting topic. How do I introduce myself? First, learn about the other person. What are they working on? What are their goals for this year? Now you can relate what you do to what they do. Here’s a framework: “We help (customer) + (with problem) + so they can (benefits)” E.g. “We help founders simplify technology complexity so they can grow revenue”. 👋 Come say "Hi!" and let's have a fun conversation! What's your networking tip? Share below! Want to know more? 🛫 Follow me for Insights on scaling your business. 👟 Make better software decisions, faster. Get my Software Assessment Playbook. Got on the signs train, John Kraski gave me the idea... Crombie allowed me to have a great picture 😎 This picture brings back great memories from Austin Startup Week at Capital Factory last year. It was one of those moments where everything clicked—new connections, fresh ideas, and a deep sense of community that only grows stronger with each conversation. I walked in with excitement and curiosity, and left with insights that have shaped my approach to both business and life ever since. In my coming and goings to Austin I had the opportunity of meeting and learning from LinkedIn top voices, but more important GREAT PEOPLE such as Mario Hernandez and Adam Robinson, and tech entrepreneurs' leaders like Joshua Baer and Jay Boisseau reminded me of the power of genuine relationships. It's not just about handing out business cards or exchanging messages—it's about truly connecting, listening, and learning from each other. That’s what makes these experiences so valuable to me, both personally and professionally. What struck me the most during that week wasn’t just the brilliant minds or innovative startups—it was the openness and empathy everyone brought to the table. People were eager to share, listen, and help each other grow. This wasn’t about superficial networking—it was about creating real connections rooted in mutual respect and a shared desire to build something meaningful. As someone who values empathy deeply, this experience reminded me that true success in any field isn’t just about knowing your stuff—it’s about understanding the people around you. It’s about taking the time to listen, learning from every encounter, and being willing to offer support without expecting anything in return. That’s what makes these connections last, and that’s what keeps pushing me forward. This photo is a snapshot of that journey—of meeting new people, learning from their experiences, and growing together. Whether it’s at an event or here on LinkedIn, I’m always ready to connect, share, and keep learning. Let’s keep the conversation going! 💡🚀 #CommunityBuilding #GrowthMindset

This is your sign to show up for startup events in your communities! The other day, I attended a #PitchNight at La Trobe University hosted by #TheStartupNetwork. I was so inspired by the work of other #founders around me. But here’s the thing: Too often, early-stage and first-time founders get hooked on attending networking events and talking endlessly about their ventures. Building connections is great, but if you don’t know how to turn them into real opportunities, you risk stalling your venture before it even takes off. All that talk often leads nowhere, and before you know it, you've wasted years just chatting with peers about your ideas. You build connections, but you don’t know how to leverage them effectively. Here is the best practice: Never walk into any room without a clear goal!!! Ask yourself, “Why am I here?” and reason it out. Be wise with your time and connections. Use your energy to build your startup and get it to market, not just talk about it. What is your conference, networking strategy? Comment below! #makeithappen
