The problem with the research-practice gap goes beyond communication; it also concerns the way research is produced and assessed. This paper proposes a shift to participatory approaches to achieve more pertinent and impactful research. This paper discusses the reality that implementers are already doing something and therefore aren't empty vessels waiting for guidance on what to do. The thirty-seventh of the weekly series of posts about “the book” (The Emerald Handbook of Research Management and Administration Around the World) The Profession of Research Management and Administration in the Caribbean Community by professor Paul W. Ivey https://lnkd.in/efsyM43e This second North American chapter in the Countries section covers RMA in the Caribbean. ChatGPT summary of the chapter: The research ecosystem in the English-speaking Caribbean, particularly within the 20-member CARICOM, is characterized by limited funding, capacity challenges, and a reliance on higher education institutions (HEIs) and state agencies for research activities. Key entities, such as the University of the West Indies, University of Technology, Jamaica, and the University of Trinidad & Tobago, focus on areas like agriculture, health, and technology. Research is constrained by limited funding, high teaching loads, and a lack of formal structures. The Caribbean Research and Innovation Management Association (CabRIMA) aims to professionalize research management, improve capacity, and foster regional collaboration. Despite progress, challenges include inadequate resourcing, training gaps, and low regional research outputs compared to global standards. Magnifique analyse !
I'm not a fan of papers published in MDPI journals. They're generally low quality and uninteresting. Most people agree with me. You know who doesn't? People who publish in MDPI journals, but this figure indicates that they're the only ones citing MDPI papers anyhow. It's unfortunate that everyone lives in their own echo chambers these days, happens in academia as much as it does elsewhere.

During the IPSERA conference, the EXPERTISE team (Vincent Delke, Jakub Sieber, Michal Tkac, Florian Paffrath, Matthias Braun, Jukka Hallikas) had the opportunity to show the research results of the project's second work package. During the session on PSM skills, Vincent Delke presented the results of the literature review and the next steps of the Erasmus+ project. The conference is the annual meeting of the International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA), a multidisciplinary network of academics and practitioners dedicated to developing knowledge about Purchasing and Supply Management (PSM). In 2024, the conference focused on “the role of PSM on producing alternatives to a world that calls for change”. The conference took place from March 24 to March 27, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro. During the presentation, the relevance and need for research on this topic was highlighted and the European collaborative work was outlined to the participants. In the next step, the preliminary study of the previous work was shown to examine and identify prevalent keywords, their relationships and the thematic clusters they form within the academic discourse on the education and training of silver workers. The results of the following systematic literature review of 1422 academic publications show that there is a need to develop targeted, age-appropriate education and training programs for silver workers, emphasizing the need for flexible, technology-driven and personalized approaches. It also calls for a shift in corporate culture and attitudes towards older workers to recognize their valuable contribution and address the unique challenges they face in a rapidly evolving business landscape. This report sets the stage for current research in EXPERTISE as well as future research and practical measures to improve the skills and employability of older workers in the PSM and related sectors. #IPSERA #PSM #SilverWorker #Training #Education Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

€6 billion needed to fund more high-quality proposals received under the #MarieSkłodowskaCurieActions, study shows 📚 The European Commission has released a new study highlighting the contribution of the #MSCA to research and innovation. It shows that the opportunities provided under the MSCA remain unparalleled at national level, demonstrating undisputed European added value. The study is part of the mid-term evaluation of #HorizonEU and compares the MSCA to other parts of the Pillar 1 programme. Here are just a few takeaways: 🔵 The MSCA leads to tangible improvements in #research organisations, including better training, more inclusive environments, and high-quality supervision. 🔵 European research projects funded by the MSCA are often larger, more complex, and more diverse, leading to more research outputs and innovations. 🔵 The programme provides access to essential knowledge, expertise, and skills that might not be available otherwise, helping to drive #innovation and #competitiveness in European research. These are just a few reasons why the programme is such a crucial element of the European research ecosystem. Investing in the programme is crucial for fostering excellent science - let's push for a brighter future for the MSCA! Read more: europa.eu/!g7PTPy
