The job hunt/application/interview process is discussed across LinkedIn each day. I have experienced frustration, disappointment, ghosting, and weariness when looking for a role. I signed up for Braintrust earlier this summer and just had a call with one of their team today. They don't charge a job seeker anything to be part of their platform (i.e., Ladders, etc.), but they do charge employers (at a much lower rate than the industry average) while vetting BOTH employers and job seekers. Fake job postings are a problem that won't likely go away very quickly on most job sites, but they are working to eliminate that issue. Also, their AI interviewing tools continue to improve, and the innovation is impressive. It is designed to help a job seeker get behind the ATS wall and have a real opportunity to interview with a hiring manager or recruiter. Someone once told me "If your company were doing as well as you say, you would hire more than 3 people". This made me laugh as it couldn't be further from the truth. The facts are, that each Consultant was billing 500% more than other agency Recruiter in the region. Our team might have been small, but they were well-supported and high-performing. They all had clear internal career paths, chances for promotions and the opportunity for a truly successful career, with the earning potential that other larger companies wouldn't offer. How many people you have working for you, doesn't define how successful your business is. I would rather have 3 x A Players than Multiple C-D Players. This comment was made only 12 months into my journey as a Business Owner, we were self-funded and I wanted to ensure my existing team were looked after before bringing anyone else into the company. This is how we retain the staff we have. Retention = growth.

How you treat people in the hiring process says EVERYTHING. (A two-part story about being people first) Last year, I wrote a few words about how I hate that I can no longer personally respond to every applicant. It's a part of the job I loved and took very seriously. Last month, we even had an applicant from 11 years ago write about it!! 🤯 "11 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘰, 𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘒𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘓𝘢𝘣, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥'𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦. We received 1,059 applicants for a single design role. 🤯 These are people taking the time to share their desire to join our mission. Fourteen years in, I'm still overwhelmed with gratitude reading their words. I also feel a touch of guilt, knowing I cannot express that personally. Thankfully, there are people on my team who can! Shout out to Kellie Groover, SHRM-CP, and Natalie Kent for leading this latest round.
