🌟 "One Week of Learning as a Graphic Design Intern at 3rd Eye" 🌟 The journey began with a tiresome grind of internship search, multiple interviews, and finally landing a good internship at 3rd Eye Events & Advertising. Every day here is an opportunity to learn something new that expands my creative horizons. This incredible week of learning wouldn’t have been so wholesome without the constant guidance of Brijesh Gajjar, Dheemahi Shukla, and Khushbu Patel. Their support has been invaluable on my journey at the workplace. ✍ Key Learnings of the Week: 1. "𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬": Creating content that stands out as the "apple of the eye" 🍎 2. "𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭": Making designs and mockups that speak volumes 🎨 3. "𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭": Adapting designs for hoardings, leaflets, backdrops, flags, etc. 🏳️ 4. "𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐰": A software that was alien to me a week ago now feels like second nature 💻 5. "𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭": The crucial role they play in creating balanced designs 📐 These highlights barely scratch the surface of the many personal and professional learnings I've gained. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing team. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲? Graphic designers can relate to this, especially when you're doing an internship. Everyone expects you to learn everything in one day, 𝗠𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: it goes back 19 months. I went to an office through a friend's reference. It was my first time, and on my first day as an intern, I met the senior sales manager. He guided me and explained everything that needed to be done. I went there for just one day, and the next day, I received calls asking why " Kyun nahi aye ap ab tak". I replied, "You hired me as an intern, not to do the work of a senior designer. I'm thrilled to share that I've wrapped up Task 4 of my internship at Oasis Infobyte, which focused on creating an infographic! Infographics are fantastic tools for presenting information clearly, and visually engagingly. This project allowed me to: Craft a Compelling Narrative: I explored the concept of "Sparking Your Creativity" by breaking it down into key subtopics: keeping an open mind, practicing mindfulness, taking notes, embracing breaks, trying new things, and collaborating. Visualize Ideas: I used visuals and icons to represent each subtopic, making the information easily digestible and visually appealing. Sharpen Design Skills: This project gave me valuable hands-on experience with design tools like Canva or Venngage, allowing me to experiment with different layouts and typography. Meet our cheerful graphic design intern, Fatanah, our latest addition to the creative team! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐂𝐈? Submitting my finished tasks and receiving feedback! It feels great when I can complete my work for the day. I’ve learned a lot from the feedback I’ve received - how to better convey information visually, and how to make these visuals presentable. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰! Since childhood, I have loved collecting items. I collect stamps, keychains, comic books, tin can pull tabs, and even bread tags! A while ago, I started collecting stickers, labels and tickets of where I've been to or what I've eaten. I paste them in a notebook as mementos, and I also jot down the dates if I remember them. It's kind of like my personal visual journal. It's always fun going through them as I recall the memories associated with each of them. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐂𝐈? I read the article "6 Compelling Reasons Why Graphic Design Internships are Important" from Rasmussen University. This article explained the specific benefits of graphic design internships very well and was very insightful. One important benefit this article covered was that interns get expousure to new skills at their internship site. Especially in an "ever-evolving industry like graphic design [where] new teachniqes and technologies are emerging every year." I have already learned so many new skills at my internship and can do things I didn't know how to do before. I really liked that the article stated that a big benefit is that you have a mentor at your internship who provieds "guidance on things like how to design within brand guidelines" etc. I relate to this a lot because of my amazing mentor who has taught me that exact skill and more. The second important benefit that was covered in this article was that interns get validation in their career choice. I definitely relate to this because I didn't think I could love graphic design more before I started this internship.. turns out I could. This internship has given me solidation that graphic design is exactly what I want to pursue for my career choice. As the article states: "there’s no better teacher than experience to tell you if this career choice is something you’ll love." I am so grateful for the opportunity to be an intern at EasyPost and everything it has taught me so far. I'm learning and improving each day. The internship helped me manage my time better, stay organized, and use the connections I made with professors. Q: When applying for internships, do you recommend a website or printed portfolio? A: I recommend a PDF portfolio. Include 5-6 pieces but no more than 5 pieces in each category. Make sure to show the step-by-step process, including sketches, wireframes, user testing, and research. Q: What are some portfolio tips you shared?
