My deepest fear as a father: My kids growing up to hate me. That's what I do as a son. But, Here's The Great Millenial Parent Paradox. We're the most informed generation of potential parents in human history. And still, we're the, most confused. most afraid. most anxious. Let me share something personal. Half of my closest friends → are struggling/struggled with pregnancy complications, miscarriages, and infertility. The other half? → They're frozen in fear about when to have kids. Or even have them or not? Will they be good parents? Are they settled? Is it the right time? How will the career be impacted? I get it. I do. They are not alone. They are not wrong. Here’s a short answer Why? We are parenting for the past, not for the future. Think about it: - We're trying to avoid our parents' mistakes - We're trying to heal from our childhood traumas - We're trying to create the perfect child-parent relationship, something we didn’t have. We’re preparing kids to not fail → In our world. The one we grew up in. While, We should prepare kids to succeed → In their world. The one they will live in. In short, we are learning to fight a dinosaur. But they are extinct. If I have to choose between, "my child hating me" and "he becoming a person capable of taking care of himself and others" I'll always choose the second one! always. This hit different Shubham - We’re preparing kids to not fail → In our world. The one we grew up in. While, We should prepare kids to succeed → In their world. The one they will live in. yes, trying to understand what their world will be like and in the process, just like the previous generation we might end up making some mistakes too.
