I got to hold this chip too. My picture is of a much worse quality, but happy Leo was able to show off how cool this thing is. The RDU chip is fascinating. For those who don't know, it has a fundamentally different architecture than the chips you are used to. In your CPU, the instructions and data are managed within the chip. this makes CPUs flexible in that they can switch between tasks easily. RDUs use a data flow architecture, which means you set the entire chip's instruction set once and then pump data through it. This is why SambaNova is fast -- language models use fixed instructions, and the only thing that changes is their inputs. Looking forward to seeing what SambaNova Systems gets up to next. Their hardware is awesome and the cloud platform is comically fast, so keep an eye on them.
