🚘With availability of good used cars for dealers becoming increasingly more difficult and expensive to source. I would have thought that Stellantis would want to keep as much quality used car stock in their network and not wholesale to others… Obviously not. #usedcars #stellantis #carfinance #europe

Overheard from a prominent dealer: “Stellantis (Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram) is now the Kia of 15 years ago” Translation: It’s going to be a shitshow for a while. Here’s why… • Dealer sentiment is dropping • Vehicle prices don’t make sense (up ~50% since 2019) • Vehicle assortment is questionable Will be interesting to see how this plays out

When operating a large mainstream brand or group of brands like Stellantis, profitable long-term sales success can only be achieved when you focus on products that serve customers in each price class for their respective segments and when you have the discipline to not get too greedy on pricing. Brand loyalty requires a path up the MSRP ladder with affordable products to bring in first-time customers along with exciting redesigns to conquest volume from other brands. You can stretch your MSRPs by introducing new low-volume products in new price tiers and adding new trims with solid content to justify higher price points. Evolutionary redesigns shouldn't give the green light for 5-10% price hikes unless you want to be the brand that overpromises and underdelivers. For the better part of the past decade, the Stellantis brands did a pretty good job at this but the product cadence they are now dealing with has abandoned the entry-priced vehicles. Sales and market share grew consistently which was driven by above-average lease penetration. Stellantis was the only OEM that offered a non-captive lease incentive (sorry, not sorry CCAP). This allowed the OEM to spend a portion of its incentive budget to outsource additional lease volume through Credit Union Leasing of America (CULA) credit unions and some other non-captive lenders all competing for this business. The added competition meant lower lease payments. Lease customers are typically the most loyal to the brand so the OEM benefited by spending similar incentive dollars this way and increasing their overall loyalty numbers. Stellantis now finds itself at a captive crossroads as Stellantis Financial Services gets up on its feet while waving goodbye to Chrysler Capital. If Stellantis had put all their eggs in the CCAP basket years ago, I'd bet that their sales numbers would have been far lower this past decade.
