By 2050, global food production will have to increase by 50% to meet the needs of a growing population - innovative solutions are therefore vital to ensure a more sustainable food supply 💡 The process of bioconversion uses insects to transform organic waste from the agricultural and agri-food industries into animal feed and fertiliser, which is helping to create a more circular food chain as well as maximising the value of organic by-products. In Malaysia, Veolia runs one of Asia’s largest industrial structures dedicated to insect production with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year, and markets its protein products: EntomealTM (flour) and Entolipid (oil). This innovation now looks set to enter the European market. This is such a great eco-system documentation by Supply Chain Movement and Argon & Co, showing how the food industry has an entirely complex network of interconnected operations, which are all having to consider how they become more sustainable within their activities - whilst generating ever-increasing output to satisfy the global populations. What is really interesting however, particularly directly linked to this Food cycle, is just how complex a chain exists BEFORE this eco-system, to generate the various input materials, seed-treatments, crop-protection chemicals or biological options, that also flow into the farm either directly or through distribution channels. I'm imagining building an entire flow on the front of this!!!! #foodsecurity #supplychain #supplychainmanagement #globalsourcing #farmtofork

How we turned waste products into an actual food source 🚀 Last week 🍄 Franziskus Schnabel and Dr. Nina-Katharina Krahe visited the main plant of the frischli Milchwerke GmbH dairy. Frischli is one of the most modern and efficient dairies in Germany, with high standards when it comes to sustainability and innovation. In their search for innovative solutions for a sustainable circular economy within their own production, they found their way to the German Fermentation Summit where they got to know our Kynda team. One of the issues they face is what to do with the oat okara, the residue left over after extracting oat base from oat flour. Luckily for them (and us), upcycling this side stream is one of our specialities. Okara by-products usually end up in biogas plants - an artificial oxygen-free system where you can turn waste into energy and fertilisers. However, with our highly efficient technology, we can ferment okara into an incredibly valuable food raw material within just 48 hours, helping to create a profitable circular economy ♻️ Alongside Marvin Finke and his innovation team, we examined the oat base production process; integrating okara directly into our bioprocess. After 48 hours, we tasted the result together. It was fantastic to demonstrate the synergies so clearly, right through to the end product 🤝 #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #BioTech

Today's interesting fact about grapes: In 2023, the global vineyard surface area amounted to about 7.2 million hectares. 🌍🍇 So what? This statistic provides a unique perspective. It represents a significant opportunity for a circular economic approach in this sector, leading to products with numerous advantages and applications. Through our lens, we seized this opportunity and created high-quality grapeseed oil suitable for the cosmetics, culinary, and pharmaceutical industries. 🌿✨ Not only that, but we also produce grape biopellets. The takeaway: Embrace the opportunity and implement more green practices! Consider our sustainable grapeseed oil, grown by Green Gold International! 🌱💚 #GrapeSeedOil #CircularEconomy #SustainableBusiness #Sustainability

There are 1 BILLION tonnes of agrifood byproducts produced every year. Our mission is to decarbonize supply chains by upcycling byproducts into valuable ingredients, helping to prevent food waste and carbon emissions. 🍺🌽🥕WHAT WE UPCYCLE🥕🌽🍺 Our unique upcycling platform can upcycle almost any agrifood byproducts and turn them into ready-to-use ingredients. We built our platform by upcycling brewers’ spent grains, the byproduct of beer brewing, creating a process that could handle input variability. Now, we’re testing all kinds of byproducts to create new upcycled ingredients as we grow! (…and we may already be testing ethanol byproducts) 🍞🍭🧪OUR PRODUCTS🧪🍭🍞 Terra creates ingredients for food & pet food manufacturers, fermentation companies, and chemical producers. We currently offer Recyclose, an upcycled sugar mixture, and Protina, an upcycled plant-based protein. Both products are currently in their final stages of development with prototype samples being sent to businesses around the world. Reach out if you’d like to learn more about our prototype samples! You can learn more about Recyclose and Protina in the video below. 💥🔓♻️HOW WE DO IT♻️🔓💥 We built a unique upcycling platform that breaks down almost any agrifood byproduct, unlocking its components and processing them into ingredients. We designed our platform with a low resource and energy demand while also creating multiple product outputs to shrink our carbon footprint and offer more competitive pricing! With patents for our process filed, the remaining details are top-secret 🤐 #upcycling #upcycledfood #circulareconomy #BSG #foodtech

Clean Food Group, a UK biotech company, has announced a strategic partnership with cosmetics manufacturer THG LABS to develop sustainable raw materials for the beauty industry. The collaboration will initially focus on creating a low-impact, high-performance oil derived from food waste using Clean Food Group's proprietary fermentation technology. Clean Food Group's process utilizes yeast strains to transform bread waste into sustainable alternatives to conventional oils and fats. The partnership aims to reduce the environmental footprint of cosmetics production by providing bio-equivalent alternatives to agriculturally intensive ingredients. Clean Food Group recently secured £4.8 million in funding to advance its technology, with plans to bring a yeast-derived cell-cultured palm oil alternative to market by 2025. #cellag #futureoffood #precisionfermentation #cellbasedmeat #cultivatedmeat

The chocolate industry needs urgent innovation due to its environmental and ethical impact. Traditional cocoa farming causes deforestation and faces labour criticism, while cocoa prices rise. Innovative start-ups are rising to the challenge with alternatives like ChoVivia, THIC, and products from Voyage Foods, Nukoko, Cellest Bio, Foreverland, and Win-Win. These solutions often use fermentation and upcycled ingredients to create sustainable chocolate alternatives. Protecting intellectual property is crucial for these innovators to safeguard their advancements and secure funding.
