I Analyzed Over 140 Black Friday SaaS Deals—Here’s What I Discovered About BFCM Deal Structures #BFCM just wrapped up, and we’ve been busy at Emailvendorselection. This year, we shared over 140 of the best #SaaS deals in 2024, from social media tools to email marketing platforms. (P.S. If you hurry, some deals are still live—check them out at emailvendorselection.com ) But I didn’t stop there. I dug deeper into these deals to uncover trends and lessons SaaS businesses can learn from. If you’re planning next year’s BFCM strategy, here’s what you need to know. 1. 50% Discounts Lead the Pack Among the deals analyzed, 39 offered exactly 50% off, making it the most popular discount % by far. Discounts in the 30%–50% range accounted for the majority of offers. Why? Probably because it hits the perfect balance: it’s significant enough to grab attention without feeling like you’re undervaluing your product Here’s how other discounts compared: Discounts in the 10%-25% range were also quite common. Outliers like 90% (yes, that’s real!) and combo discounts (e.g., 90%, 75%, 50%) are rare but bold moves that can attract serious attention. 🛠️ Takeaway: If you're unsure about your discount structure, the 30%-50% range is a solid starting point. But if you’re feeling adventurous, consider a “wow” discount (like 75%+) for maximum impact—just make sure it aligns with your margins. 2. Shorter Deals Pack a Punch The length of your deal matters almost as much as the discount itself. Short deals (3–15 days): Higher discounts are more common, using urgency to drive quick decisions. Medium deals (16–30 days): Discounts start to dip here as companies balance urgency with exposure. Long deals (31+ days): Discounts drop further, averaging 20%-30%. Prolonged visibility is the main goal here, but the sense of urgency diminishes. 🛠️ Takeaway: Use shorter deals to create urgency and drive quick conversions. Longer deals can sustain interest but may require additional strategies like bundling or exclusive add-ons to maintain momentum. Just don’t stretch a 90% deal over two months—it might signal desperation rather than value. 3. Simplicity Wins in Deal Types Most deals focused on one clear discount percentage, like 50%, rather than multiple tiers or overly complex structures. This straightforward approach makes it easier for customers to decide. That said, some businesses went creative with combo offers, layering multiple percentages (e.g., 50%, 75%, 90%) to cater to different buyer personas or products. 🛠️ Takeaway: When in doubt, stick with a single discount percentage. If you go for a combo deal, make it crystal clear who benefits from each tier. Confused customers don’t convert. Final Thoughts Every business is different. Use these insights as a guide, but don’t be afraid to experiment. What kind of deals worked for your business this BFCM? Or what deals were you most attracted to? Let’s discuss!

Would you trust a SaaS subscription that runs on discounts? I wouldn’t. Here’s why… We all know the drill: Cyber Monday, Black Friday, Prime Day—these events flood our feeds with discounts. Who doesn’t love a good deal on the latest gadgets, right? 📱📺👕 But what if SaaS companies like snapADDY or major CRM platforms started offering Black Friday deals? Here’s why I think it could hurt them: 💣 Discounts = Churn Time Bomb Tying customers to discounts may boost short-term sales, but it risks long-term churn. Once those discounts end, customers are more likely to leave for the next “best deal.” ↘️ Devalues Your Brand When customers see deep discounts, they start to question the true value of your product. If everything’s half off now, are regular prices a rip-off? (Think about how B2C brands struggle with this—does anyone pay full price for a t-shirt anymore?) 📢 High Competition, Low ROI Competing for attention on Black Friday is expensive. You’re fighting for visibility in a sea of retail noise. Does that send the right message about your brand’s value? So, how can SaaS brands stay relevant without cheapening their value? 🍾 Extend or Enhance Trials Offer extended trial periods or personalized demos that show off your product’s value—without the race to the bottom. 🫸🏻 Reactivate Cold Leads Use the hype to re-engage cold leads or warm prospects. No crazy discounts—just genuine conversations about how your product can solve their challenges. 🪢 Reward Loyalty Engage existing customers with incentives like multi-year renewal deals or complimentary trial runs of other products in your portfolio. Ultimately, it’s not about quick sales. It’s about building long-term trust. Want to learn how snapADDY adds value? I’d love to show you—no discounts required. #sales #marketing #discounts #are#sreallydead?

🎉 Should SaaS Companies Jump on Black Friday Deals? 🎉 Ah, Black Friday—the time of year when we all get hypnotised by "unmissable deals" and end up with just a few things to throw in a closet, never again to see the light of day! But should SaaS companies join in the fun and offer discounts, or are they better off sticking to their guns and holding value? Let’s take a look at the good, bad and the ugly. 😄 🚀 Pros: More Users - Black Friday is like SaaS Christmas: loads of people looking for a deal! Perfect time to pull in new users and finally get those folks who've been lurking in the free trial zone. (see Paddle data) Loyalty Boost - You can give your loyal customers a sweet upgrade option or a renewal discount. Make them feel like VIPs, right? Better CAC - Customer acquisition costs might actually drop. Everyone’s hunting for a bargain, so ad spend might actually go down for once. (Yes, miracles do happen!) 👎 Cons: Risk of Becoming "That Brand" - Frequent discounts? People start treating your software like those Christmas-only candles. Pretty, but only worth it when half off. Thin Margins - You slash prices, then they ghost you after the first year. SaaS companies don’t live off single sales; they need commitment and expansion! Not all "deal hunters" stick around for the real price. Attracting the wrong customers makes churn rates worse in the long run and may not even pay back the CAC / support costs. More Noise in Support - A sudden customer rush = overloaded support. If you’re not careful, your support team will look like it went on an all-night Black Friday shopping spree itself (haggard and overworked). All of a sudden, your high value customers feel neglected and start shopping around. 😬 Bottom Line? If you’re all about fast growth and bringing in new users, a Black Friday promo can give you that boost. But if your vibe is more premium and you're going for lifetime value, tread lightly. Maybe offer an extra add-on or free onboarding instead of slashing prices. And for the love of SaaS—if you did go for it, I hope you didn't train your customers to wait for next year's discount! You know what I'm not a fan of? Black Friday for enterprise. Like, I understand why companies do this-- everyone is selling everything and offering sales, it's year end budget, it's hard not to participate. But, I don't really want the same week that I do giant major annual shopping for my family to also be the week I do giant major annual shopping for my business. Especially because I'm usually not even working that week. It's just very different brain usage, too much shopping, and too much to keep track of. Also, I just... don't impulse buy enterprise software. Do you?? I don't go, "Oh, I can save $200 on web hosting or $500 on CRMs or whatever if I buy it right now, so why don't I do that." I buy enterprise software when I need it. That said, I would actually be down with a single huge enterprise software sales week. I can see a lot of positives to there being a cultural trend where everyone puts out offers at the same time, and tools get priced low enough that you can try out new workflows for fun. Can we just please put in March, or some other time that nothing else is going on? Like, a giant enterprise sale in late November just DOES NOT make sense. Even if I did have the mental bandwidth for business shopping during this time, what company wants to roll out new tools in December??? Or, okay, I understand this is a year end budget thing. So check this out: We push it back a few weeks to early/mid December, and everybody offers a free month because nobody will touch it until mid Jan earliest. And then we do it again in early June or something to sweep up Q2 budget, because I need this to happen biannually (since again, no impulse buying enterprise software). I do think a big enterprise sales period could be a fun and ultimately lucrative cultural trend across the entire industry. But enterprise buyers and consumer buyers are ultimately the same humans, so give us a little breathing room will you? 😆
