National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO)'s midyear event saw 90%+ participation from US State CIOs which led to fantastic discussions. Here's what I took home: - The "I" in Chief Information Officer should be remarketed to "Indispensable" - credit to Theresa Payton, ex-CIO for the White House - We're still early in our data governance journeys and GenAI has put fuel on that fire - Citizens expect a single passage way through government services (e.g., DMV, Health, Retirement, etc.) irrespective how federated our functional structures may be - We should provide a training ground for AI and cyber skills despite the possibility that talent move on to the private sector - Get in front of the next generation early to promote careers in IT - BRMs are the key to collaboration with stakeholders and IT being perceived as an enabler I've included a few links in the comments below in for any interested in how we are supporting State CIOs in the above.
