In recognition of World Futures day- please see this article from the Partnership for Public Service on the value of foresight in government. It takes time to socialize and win hearts and minds to adopt this discipline. I have found that tying it to more widely understood strategic planning helps but often I frame foresight as why it benefits my audience at a fundamental level. At my agency it is usually obtaining resources and authorities to fight financial crime (current and emerging) and stay ahead of threats to protectees (kinetic and cyber). However, to all my futurist colleagues, especially in the interagency- meet your people where they are; demonstrate the indispensability of foresight and how it can help them shape the future THEY want to see based on THEIR equities. Stay curious, flexible, and persistent- when decisions are made that were foresight-informed at your organization, your hard work has paid off. Federal Foresight Community of Interest

Explore the Horizon 2045 Foresight Radar To understand what’s possible, we must first understand what’s changing. The Horizon 2045 Foresight Radar is an interactive tool for exploring pivotal issues and drivers of change shaping human and planetary security. It features a unique collection of over 500 signals of change and three divergent scenarios of the world in 2045. Click the link below and experience our groundbreaking tool for understanding change! Background Over the year (2023) we developed an innovative foresight process for exploring ways in which the confluence of threats we face might reshape systems of human and planetary security. The process began with our international horizon scanning network identifying dynamics of change in human and planetary systems, social values and attitudes, governance structures, technology, and the rule of law that are shaping the future of security. In collaboration with the School of International Futures, we designed a participatory foresight process that leveraged the diverse expertise of our global networks to identify the dynamics emerging at the intersection of a variety of complex threats and explored their implications. Last week I spoke at SXSW, and now the keynote is online. The topic is "The Tech Industry and Cold War Two® — Risks, Threats, and Opportunities." This speech focused on Cold War Two® geopolitical implications for tech industries, including an evaluation of historical trends of the past and data of the present to help attendees craft visions of the future for geopolitics and technology. Attendees enjoyed a high-paced keynote on how evolving geopolitical tensions present risks, threats, and opportunities for tech companies, ecosystems, and investments. The talk was part of SXSW Interactive, which is focused on emerging technologies and trends. I have frequently spoken at the annual SXSW conference, sharing futurist and economic insights from The Futurist Institute and Prestige Economics. Cold War Two® is a registered trademark with the USPTO and UKIPO owned by Prestige Economics. Ahead of my keynote speech, the SXSW site included a complete description of the talk, noting, "The United States and its allies are in the middle of a Second Cold War with China and Russia, including with their allies and proxies. This has significant implications for the global economy, technology businesses, and startups. This presentation will address the biggest risks, threats, and opportunities for the tech industry due to rising geopolitical tensions and Cold War Two, with a focus on recent and future tech implications. Topics of this talk will include a discussion of recent and likely future trade restrictions and supply chain impacts, macroeconomic dislocations and opportunities, tech investing and fundraising restrictions, financial market impacts, reshoring, government funding, and more." The entire talk is online, and I hope you find it informative. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. #technology #geopolitics #nationalsecurity https://lnkd.in/g7WHAQXJ

Key Insights from the Azets barometer, a study done in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland and the UK: 🔒 Cybersecurity Alert: A rising number of businesses report cyber incidents in the past year, suggesting a possible surge in awareness rather than a true spike in events. 📈 💰 Cashflow Trends: Companies are planning with 10-12 month cashflow forecasts, with larger firms looking even further ahead. 🔄 🌟 Talent Dynamics: Retaining talent seems more assured than attracting new stars, especially in larger organizations. 🚀 For deeper insights, check out the Azets Barometer for the latest trends and outlooks from forward-thinking business leaders, and if you have a little more time, check out the dashboard with detailed information, e.g on your market. 📊 https://lnkd.in/eMe__ZxW

If you caught my and Eli Margolese-Malin's work on emerging consumer groups at The Forward Festival, then you'll know that #Trust is a crucial through-line uniting the five customer values we found to be growing in importance. I'm currently developing a framework that will help innovators at companies in traditional industries intentionally build trustworthiness into their long-term business strategy. In this development phase, I'd appreciate your: ✅ Recommendations for books, articles, or experts to interview. ✅ Connections to editors who may be interested in publishing the findings and/or the framework. To date, my research for this framework includes the following books: How Trust Works (2023) by Peter H. Kim The Truth About Trust (2014) by David DeSteno Trust (2023) by Henry Cloud The Speed of Trust (2006) by Stephen M. R. Covey with Rebecca R. Merrill Narrative Economics (2019) by Robert J. Shiller Phishing for Phools (2015) by Robert J. Shiller and George Akerlof Who Can You Trust (2017) by Rachel Botsman Trust Agents (2010) by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith
