As we observe Black History Month, it is crucial to reflect on the profound contributions made by our elders in rebuilding the country, spanning various fields from nursing and transportation to art, music, and culture. However, the legacies of painful racism and scandals like Windrush persist in 2024, underscoring the ongoing struggle against systemic inequalities. Throughout history, the racial disparities faced by Black individuals within the justice system have been well-documented, highlighting the system's role in perpetuating racism and oppression. As Alicia Garza aptly stated, racism is a mechanism for certain groups to uphold power at the expense of others. This month serves as a time to honor achievements, acknowledge struggles, and recognize that the fight for justice and equality extends beyond a single month. It is imperative for all of us to dedicate ourselves to creating a future characterized by equality, peace, and respect for all, ensuring justice and fairness prevail. #BlackHistoryMonth #Equality #Justice #Inclusion

In honoring and celebrating #Juneteenth, we recognize that there is more to be done to continue amplifying Black voices and fighting for a more equitable future. In the face of the recent DEI backlash and lawsuits against organizations like Fearless Fund, we believe that organizations must come together and define strategies for pushing back and advancing the work we know is critically important to closing the racial wealth gap. At Halcyon, we are more committed than ever to diversity, equity, and inclusion and creating an environment where those with ambition get access to the resources they need.

Don’t mind me, just doing my #BlackJob of: Curating Black spaces Connecting Black communities Amplifying Black businesses Teaching about Black culture Raising beautiful Black babies Forming a multi-ethnic Black family Getting inspired and poured into by Black people from all over the world. The Reparations Race is here to stay. Hola Magnolia Identityworks is my reason. And my first-ever live Hola Magnolia Identityworks Belonging Lab one week ago today was a gift to the Global Black Community as part of our pledge through the #ReparationsRace to pay forward, backward and all around the abundance of support we receive from this community—starting with Black women. Thanks to Natasha D. Wade of Natasha Wade, Your Black Women's Soul Coach and LaTonya Wilkins of Change Coaches together with The Reparations Race and Hola Magnolia Identityworks for sponsoring the first ever live Belonging Lab coaching workshop in honor of Juneteenth Twenty Four, in collaboration with Edna Sey and Egala Elembo of Afrokonnection and Chez Cornelia, Occidental African Chef, in Barcelona. That’s right. Three Black woman coaches, two woman Black artist-organizers and a Black woman chef together with our teams DID that. So you wanna talk about Black jobs? THAT is a Black job. They tried to divide and conquer over the course of centuries, and instead is we made our way back to each other stronger, wiser, and more embodied than ever. This is a snapshot of our Ancestors’ wildest dreams right here. You want to make us into a political talking point for personal gain? You want to perpetuate anti-Blackness by putting Brown people against Black peoples as if our liberation were not inextricably linked? Hold my Bissap. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. #BlackLinkedIn #Identity #Belonging

🌟 Happy Juneteenth! 🌟 Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history that symbolizes freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Galveston, Texas, marking the end of slavery in the United States. As we celebrate this day, let’s reflect on the significance of freedom and the progress we’ve made, while also recognizing the work that still lies ahead. It’s a time to honor the strength and resilience of the Black community, to educate ourselves about the history and culture, and to actively support the fight against racial injustice. Can we use this day as an opportunity to: • Educate ourselves and others about the history and significance of Juneteenth. • Support Black-owned businesses and initiatives. • Amplify Black voices and stories. • Commit to fostering diversity and inclusion in our workplaces and communities. Together, we can continue to build a more inclusive and equitable society. Let’s celebrate freedom, honor the past, and inspire a better future. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Emancipation #BlackHistory #Diversity #Inclusion #Equality

On Black Awareness Day, we are invited to reflect on history and recognize the essential contributions of Black culture to the building of our society. It is a moment to celebrate the strength and resilience of the Black community, which transforms challenges into power, overcoming barriers imposed by centuries of exclusion. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 At the same time, this day challenges us to confront the inequalities that still persist. Racism is not just a matter of the past; it is a reality that must be faced with courage and urgency. If we want change, we need to act today: listening, learning, combating discriminatory practices in our daily lives, and supporting inclusion initiatives. More than just a date, Black Awareness Day is a commitment to equity. May our daily actions reflect respect for diversity and justice. Only then can we build a future where all voices are heard, valued, and celebrated. At Baril Advogados, we believe in the importance of inclusion and social justice. We are committed to internal diversity policies, educational initiatives, and fostering an environment where everyone feels respected and valued, regardless of their background. 🤲🏽⚖️ ✨ #SomosTodosBaril #BlackAwarenessDay #RacialEquality #Equity #Diversity #Justice #Respect #AwarenessInAction

"Why does it matter?" As professionals in our field, we often hear the question, "why does it matter?" It’s surprising that, even today, this question arises when discussing Black History Month or other awareness days. But, whilst it is important to promote race equality throughout the whole year, Black History Month does matter. It provides organisations with an opportunity to focus and reflect on the work they are doing with regards to race equality and to celebrate Black cultures. Here’s how organisations can embrace Black History Month in meaningful and impactful ways: Education and awareness: Organise sessions to educate employees about Black history and contributions. Inclusive practices: Review recruitment and promotion policies to eliminate biases and create an inclusive workplace. Community engagement: Partner with local Black-owned businesses and nonprofits to support their initiatives. See link in comments for more tips.
