Black History Month in the UK offers a valuable opportunity not only to reflect on the past but also to actively shape the future by supporting meaningful policy changes that uplift Black communities. Rather than limiting the month to celebrations and reflections, we can use this time to push for improved representation, equality, and justice through better-quality policies. This includes lobbying for reforms that address racial disparities in education, healthcare, and the criminal justice system. By participating in these efforts, individuals and organisations can turn acknowledgement into action, advocating for systemic changes that create lasting, positive impacts for future generations. One of the most powerful ways to celebrate Black History Month is by supporting grassroots organisations, community leaders, and policy initiatives that work towards racial equality. Attend public discussions, share resources, and advocate for policies that provide greater economic opportunities, better access to education, and stronger anti-racism legislation. Whether by attending a local event or engaging with policymakers, we can all contribute to meaningful change. Let’s use this month as a catalyst to champion the policies and actions that will secure a more equitable future for all. #BlackHistoryMonth #PolicyReform #RacialEquality #Advocacy #CommunityLeadership #SystemicChange #UK

Today, I join in commemorating Juneteenth, a significant day in American history. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, marking the end of slavery in the United States. This day, often called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a profound reminder of the long and ongoing struggle for justice and equality. As someone who benefits from the privileges of a society still grappling with the legacy of slavery and systemic racism, I believe it is crucial to use this day for reflection, education, and action. Reflect on the Past: Understand the historical context and the immense struggles faced by Black communities. The resilience and strength shown by those who endured slavery and fought for their freedom are truly remarkable. Educate Ourselves and Others: Juneteenth is an opportunity to learn about Black history and culture, as well as the systemic challenges that continue to affect Black Americans. Awareness and understanding are vital steps toward change. Commit to Change: This is also a day to reaffirm our commitment to promoting racial equality and justice. It’s about standing in solidarity with the Black community, advocating for policy changes, and supporting initiatives that drive equity and inclusion in our workplaces and beyond. By honoring Juneteenth, we acknowledge a painful chapter in our history and recognize the progress still needed. Let’s take this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, listen to Black voices, and take concrete actions towards a more just and inclusive society. #Juneteenth #Reflection #CommitmentToChange #Equality #Inclusion #Diversity #Denver #Colorado #USA

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks a pivotal moment in American history – the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth not only honors the struggle and resilience of African Americans but also offers an opportunity to educate ourselves and support the ongoing fight for racial equality. AAEG (African American Employee Group) a BASF ECMS Employee Resource Group (ERG) shared with us a few ways we can support and learn more about this federal holiday. • Support Black-Owned Businesses – seek out local and online Black-owned businesses and make a conscious effort to support them year-round. This not only helps to uplift these businesses but also contributes to the economic empowerment of the Black community. • Advocate for Change – use your voice and platform to advocate for policies, initiatives, and education that promote racial equity. Whether it's through social media, community engagement, or other channels, your advocacy can help drive meaningful change. • Reflect and be part of the change – being part of the change involves continuous learning and a commitment to standing in solidarity with the Black community. • Amplify Black Voices - Listen to and amplify the voices of Black individuals and communities. Actively seek out perspectives and experiences that differ from your own. Engage in meaningful conversations about race and inequality. Remember that allyship is an ongoing journey that requires continuous learning, reflection, and action. • Donate – support organizations that advocate for racial justice and provide education by donating your time or resources. #togetherWeLead

As we celebrate Juneteenth, it's essential to recognize the profound historical significance of this day beyond its commercialization. Juneteenth commemorates the moment in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a powerful reminder of the long and arduous journey towards freedom and equality for Black Americans. For companies, Juneteenth should serve as more than just a day off on the calendar or an opportunity for marketing campaigns. It’s a call to action to embed the principles of freedom, equity, and justice into your core values and everyday practices. Here are a few ways to honor Juneteenth meaningfully within your organization: 1. **Educate and Reflect:** Host workshops, seminars, and discussions about Black history (outside of Black History month) and the significance of Juneteenth. Encourage employees to engage with this history to better understand the context of current racial issues. 2. **Promote Equity:** Assess your company policies and culture to ensure they promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes hiring practices, pay equity, and creating a supportive environment where all voices are heard and valued. 3. **Support Black Communities:** Partner with and support Black-owned businesses and organizations. Invest in community programs that uplift and empower Black individuals and communities. 4. **Ongoing Commitment:** Commit to anti-racism and inclusion beyond Juneteenth. Develop long-term strategies for diversity training, policy reforms, and community engagement. Remember, honoring Juneteenth means embracing its principles every day. Let this day inspire continuous efforts toward creating a just and inclusive workplace and society. In short, please do not put up “Happy Juneteenth” social media posts if your company does not include African Americans in your leadership, board of directors, or around the table where decisions are made. It is time for real change. #Juneteenth #Equity #Inclusion #BlackHistory #CorporateResponsibility #Diversity

In a compelling discussion with Mike Adams, Kevin McGary, founder of Every Black Life Matters, critically examines the destructive impact of WOKE diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies on American society. McGary argues that these policies, while well-intentioned, inadvertently foster division and undermine true meritocracy and unity. He highlights the need for reforms in various sectors, including education, energy, and government, to better serve Black communities and emphasizes the importance of understanding accurate historical facts to promote societal cohesion. McGary's insights call for a re-evaluation of DEI initiatives to ensure they genuinely advance justice and equality, urging viewers to engage with Every Black Life Matters to advocate for meaningful change. https://lnkd.in/dyTmgCB6 #EveryBlackLifeMatters #KevinMcGary #MikeAdams #DEIReform #WOKEAwareness #DiversityEquityInclusion #TrueMeritocracy #SocietalCohesion #UnityNotDivision #HistoricalTruths #BlackCommunityEmpowerment #AdvocateForChange #MeaningfulChange #CriticalDiscussion #PolicyImpact #EducationReform #EnergyJustice #GovernmentAccountability #SocialJustice #EquitablePolicies #CulturalAwareness #ReevaluateDEI #CommunityEngagement #ImpactfulDialogue #PromoteEquality #ReformInitiatives #ThoughtLeadership #InclusiveFuture #AmericanSocietyDebate #PathToUnity

𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 📢 Black History Month is a time when we celebrate and recognise Black heritage and culture in the UK! In light of this, I wanted to celebrate just that and raise awareness to the work that is currently being done within the Social Housing Sector. 🔎 While doing my own research, I stubbled on an excellent article from Inside Housing - '𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆'. This article, that I will list below, highlights 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 within Social Housing for the Black community. It was defiantly an eye opener to myself, and I would definitely recommend giving it a read!
