It was an honor to moderate the panel "Supercharging Solutions at the Nexus of Education, Business, and Community" at the Sustainable Brands Brand-Led Culture Change event on May 9th. Huge thanks to panelists Kellie Lauth (CEO, MindSpark), Ann Woo (Executive Director, Samsung Electronics), Stephen Ritz (Founder, Green Bronx Machine), and Phil Berry, IDSA (Director, Office of Sustainability for Pima Community College) for an amazing discussion. The core conversation centered around why and how companies should prioritize education, not just generally, but specifically in the communities where they operate. We challenged the traditional over-emphasis on shareholder value vs. community and employees as key stakeholders, emphasizing that a well-educated population is key to a healthy society. A strong education system fosters a more resilient workforce, tackles issues like poverty and food insecurity, and contributes positively to healthcare, democracy, and so much more. It's not just good for society, it's good for business too. In short, educated communities are more resilient in addressing societal challenges. I truly hope Sustainable Brand will facilitate more conversations like this one in the future. Huge thanks to KoAnn Vikoren Skrzyniarz and Dimitar Vlahov for organizing such a fantastic event.

November has flown by and it's crazy to think that we hosted our first ever panel event (with Rock Badger ) on using creative means to positively fuel the conversation around sustainability. It was an evening filled with inspiring insights, thought-provoking discussions, and a call to action for all of us—brands, creators, and individuals alike. One of my many highlights was hearing from Marine Tanguy, who shared her research on how we consume media and the pivotal role of visual storytelling in the sustainability space. She emphasised a powerful truth: while we have control over how we consume media (a key theme in her book, Visual Detox), there’s an equally pressing responsibility for brands to take genuine ownership of the visuals they share about their sustainability efforts. Visuals aren’t just a tool for communication—they’re a medium for accountability, action, and inspiration. They have the potential to turn a conversation into a movement, but only if they’re rooted in authenticity. So, here’s a question for all of you: 👉🏼 How can we use video and visual content not just to discuss sustainability but to drive real action? 🌟 Reflecting on a Fulfilling Good Friday 🌟 Last Good Friday wasn't just any day off for me; it was an opportunity to engage in two incredibly enriching mentoring sessions. In the first session, I had the pleasure of guiding a start-up team consisting of three talented individuals, as they embarked on a journey to explore sustainable packaging solutions. 💼 It was inspiring to witness their passion and dedication to creating positive change in the world of packaging. Together, we delved into innovative ideas and strategies, laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future. 🌱 A heartfelt thank you to the start-up team Carla Günnewig Maren Bohl and Marco Lolaico for their enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference. Your vision and determination are truly commendable. In the second session, I had the privilege of mentoring students in Switzerland who are preparing for their thesis. Our discussion revolved around important topics such as the Green Deal, the Chemical Strategy, and the PPWR. 📚 It was a thought-provoking conversation, exploring the implications of these initiatives and their role in shaping environmental policies and practices. The students' eagerness to learn and engage in meaningful dialogue was truly inspiring. One of the things I love most about creating events is working with brands who live and breathe their purpose. Whether it’s through products, services or community outreach, having that clear purpose and bringing it to life is what really inspires me. One of my current favourite brands is the Small Beer Company, because they have a clear proposition and they stick to it. As the first BCorp Brewery in London, sustainability is their game, and they’ve got the stats to back it up. Community is at the centre of everything they do, which is evident through the social activities and work they engage with locally. Which brands inspire you and why? Bristol has been brimming and buzzing with purpose this week. Today, was the Future Leap Network Festival of Sustainable Business Conference. My favourite seminar of the morning - Leading Change: Brand Activism, Communications and Business. Bringing together Ian McKee, Joss Ford, Rin Hamburgh, Issy Cheung, Kyrby Brown, Robbie Gillett the panel led by Ed Garrett, explored how brand activism can play a part social change. Key take aways for me: - Always keep your audience at the heart of what you do - Harness the good power that language possess… be curious and pick apart the words we use to switch the lens to illuminate and lift up. - Be accessible, but be truly accessible don’t jus say you are - Listen to experiences - Apply empathy in your design Great to see some familiar faces Gildas Jones Nick Sturge. #bristol #socialimpact #leadingchange

MTLC welcomes GreenroomVoice to the coalition. GreenroomVoice is a specialised agency focusing on sustainability communications in the outdoor sports sector. The agency's goal is to foster clear, meaningful and trustworthy communication about CSR brand activities and their products. They draw the most inspiration from the outdoor community, and that is where they are the most active. Cira Riedel of GreenroomVoice explains: "Communication leads to conversation, conversation leads to understanding, understanding leads to movement, movement leads to action and action is what changes our world. The impactful laws the EU are preparing on what and how to communicate about environmental and social impact on products and on brand level will empower the consumer to make conscious and informed buying decisions to drive change. Getting the details and tools of these legislations, such as PEF and the PEFCR right, is critical, which is why we decided to join MTLC as a coalition member."
