Today, 50% of the working population worldwide needs to upskill or reskill to stay competitive, a figure projected to increase to 90% by 2030. https://lnkd.in/dQtduWyd In their latest article, authors Sagar Goel, Sriramprasad Rangarajan, Orsolya Kovacs-Ondrejkovic, Joerg Hildebrandt, Leila Hoteit, and Anton Stepanenko examine over 80 skilling ecosystems around the world. Coupled with their extensive experience collaborating with governments, they have pinpointed four major market challenges. They argue that governments are uniquely positioned to adopt a more strategic role in addressing these challenges and propose three key interventions that governments can implement to tackle them.

Dear Connections,  I am writing to present my research proposal focused on the ' intersection of HR and employment policies during the transition to a green economy and green jobs, with a particular emphasis on the manufacturing sector'. As global and national efforts intensify to address climate change, understanding and optimizing employment policies within this context is crucial for a successful and inclusive transition. The manufacturing sector, a significant contributor to the carbon footprint, plays a critical role in this transition. In countries like India, which has set an ambitious target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070, the role of manufacturing is pivotal. The sector faces a unique challenge: balancing its substantial environmental impact with the goals outlined in the National Manufacturing Policy, which aims to increase the sector’s GDP contribution to 25% while simultaneously meeting net zero targets. This complex dilemma is further compounded by high unemployment rates, skill gaps, gender issues; making a people-centric approach to green job transition essential. My research proposal aims to address several key questions central to this transition: 1. What are the prevailing green job creation initiatives and employment policies currently implemented within the manufacturing industry? 2. What are the primary obstacles hindering the effective implementation of green job policies in the manufacturing sector, and how do these challenges differ from other sectors? 3. What untapped opportunities exist for enhancing green job creation efforts within the industrial ecosystem, and how can these opportunities be leveraged for maximum impact? 4. How can employment policies in the manufacturing sector be refined to ensure equitable job opportunities and promote inclusive growth? 5. What specific challenges does the manufacturing sector face in transitioning to a green economy, and how do these challenges impact employment policies? Addressing these questions is vital for developing actionable insights that can guide the formulation of effective employment policies and practices. By focusing on a people-centric approach, this research aims to navigate the intersection of enhancing manufacturing’s GDP contribution, achieving environmental goals, and reducing unemployment.  I am keen to explore potential collaborations and discussions with experts and organisations like yours, which are at the forefront of green economy initiatives and employment policy development.
