Just 2.2% of speaking characters in top movies released last year were portrayed as having a #disability. At a time when over one-quarter of the United States population reports having a disability, this low level of #disabilityrepresentation is not enough. We know that representation matters and true representation occurs when folks truly know and understand disability. #CertifiedRehabilitationCounselors work daily on and off the clock as key disability advocates. With CRCs expanding into new and emerging work settings, hopefully, we will see an increase in discourse, representation, and understanding of disability.

Decisions about communities should only be made by people with #lived #experience. It's as simple as that! In my own way, I made this very point in my acceptance speech when I won at the Scope Disability Equality Awards 2024 in the category of 'Role Model'. #Disability #rolemodel #leadership #policymakers

Disability Equity is an attainable goal. If everyone does their part and don’t give up at the first road block. If we, People with Disabilities, speak up and don’t accept abuse. If we all support one another when needed and stand up when we see a situation that is not OK. Disability Equity is an attainable goal. And one day we’ll get there 💜 #Disability #A11y #DisabilityEquity #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityRepresentation #DisabledAndProud #DEI
There's SO much more to disability inclusive marketing than casting. If your entire strategy isn't informed by disability best practices, there's no way you're going to reach the full capacity of the massive brand opportunity that is disability inclusion. Hear me out. SKIMS launched an adaptive line and their campaign was beautifully cast and flawlessly executed... at their launch. However, when Candace Owens dragged their brand and the models for being "too woke" the brand did... nothing. Not a great brand move in general, but it also gave their competitors a significant opportunity to steal their thunder. We created a case study for their competitor, Victoria's Secret, for what we'd recommend they do for Disability Pride Month. Check the link in the comments outlining how they can use the lessons from this to bolster their brand through July and beyond. #Disability #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveMarketing #InclusionMatters #DEI #DEIA #DEIB

According to the @harvardbusinessreview, 90% of companies claim to prioritize diversity, yet only 4% consider disability in those initiatives (Disability as a Source of Competitive Advantage, July-August 2023). At Parents Helping Parents, we believe that good jobs change lives, and that all workers–including those with disabilities–deserve the same opportunities to obtain and succeed in jobs and career fields of their choice. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Join us in celebrating the efforts of individuals with disabilities who are already employed. Share the efforts your company is making to provide for an inclusive and diverse workplace. Look internally about what you can do to help provide more opportunities for talented people who live with a disability. Join us in conversation with Sanket, a young person with a #disability and an advocate for disability #rights. Contrary to common misconceptions, living with a disability does not equate to constant hardship and isolation - just like anyone else, individuals with disabilities have fulfilling #social lives. Sanket, hoping we can live in a more inclusive world, shares how #society often focuses on such misconceptions, rather than addressing the lack of #infrastructure. He contends enthusiastically, "It is not the disability that is stopping me. It is the infrastructure and the systems." Watch the Full Video Here: https://lnkd.in/d-8NxsXi Video Description: Sanket, a young South Asian person with a disability and an advocate for disability rights, dispels misconceptions about people with disabilities in this video. Seated in a wheelchair, with short hair, clear glasses, a dark teal round-neck T-shirt, and dark blue jeans, he speaks candidly in front of a backdrop featuring vibrant stacks of chairs and assorted books. He also shares how society may limit his support, rather than his disability itself. #DisabilityRights #DisabilityAwareness #Accessibility #Inclusion #wheelchair #chronicpain #mentalhealth #DiversityAndInclusion #UniversalDesign #DisabilityAdvocate #Differentnotless #DisabilityRights #SocialModelOfDisability
