October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year’s theme is "Access to Good Jobs for All" and highlights the importance of increasing the quantity and quality of employment opportunities for people with disabilities. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, 75.2% of the working-age population (aged 16 to 64) without disabilities were employed in July 2024, while that number was only 36.9% for persons with a disability. In your opinion, how might companies improve job prospects for those with a disability? #NDEAM #remotejobs #invisibleillness #disabilityemployment #AccesstoGoodsJobsForAll #disabilityrights #disabilitybenefits #disabilities #accessibility #equality

🔶 How do you consider disability? 🤔 Disability is a fundamental aspect of the human experience. It is not about pity or inspiration; it is simply an inevitable part of life. Just like age, race, or gender, disability is a natural part of our diverse society that should be acknowledged, understood, and celebrated. Let’s work together to normalize disability and promote inclusivity, empowerment, and understanding. By embracing diversity in all its forms, including disability, we can create a more compassionate and equitable society for everyone. #WAB #WABCulture #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityAdvocate #SocietalPrejudices #EndTheStereotypes #Inclusion #Empowerment #SocietalPressures #SocialEvolution #DisabilityMotivation #EndTheStigma #DisabilityJustice #StopTheStigma #CerebralPalsy #CerebralPalsyAwareness #CerebralPalsyInclusivity #SupportCerebralPalsy #CerebralPalsyAdvocacy #DisabilityInclusion #Human #NormalizeDisability

October is officially here, which means it's time to shine a light on National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM). Consider this: How can we reframe conversations around disability from a “limitation” narrative to one that centers around support, inclusion, and flexibility? Inclusive leadership tip: Instead of making assumptions around limitations, let’s shift the conversation to building a sense of understanding and finding ways to embrace DIFFERENT abilities. As with any inclusion efforts, we must focus on the outcome of belonging for ALL employees. Not sure where to start or how to broach the conversation? Comment “GUIDE” to access my go-to conversation starters that foster that foster inclusivity, accommodation, and accessibility this month and beyond. #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth #InclusiveLeadership #Belonging #WorkplaceCulture

Shift your perspectives and change lives. Disability inclusion isn't about fixing individuals — it's about transforming society. Reframing our attitudes has the immediate power to create a world where everyone's abilities are valued. Working full time with people with disabilities over 3+ years has taught me a powerful lesson: changing attitudes is the key to true inclusion. So the next time when you catch yourself seeing someone's disability before their ability, pause and flip that thought. What if we saw the glass as half full? Together, we can turn exclusion into inclusion, inadequacies into assets, and challenges into opportunities. Because the only disability in this world is a bad attitude. #DisabilityPride #DisabilityInclusion #ChangingAttitudes #SocialChange #Disability #Inclusion #SocialStigma Mike Potter Huhana Hickey MNZM PHD

You know what is not fun? Having to fight everyday to work in a world that is not meant for people with disabilities. Especially in corporate america. Trying to get your employer to understand your disability. Endless amounts of paper work that has to be signed by Doctors ( as if my doctor has time to keep filling these out). Even though on all paper work it states it’s a permanent disability. Constantly having to prove your self. Having great reviews and monthly 1:1 only to go back to not feeling “good enough” because your disability causes you to miss time and work. It’s exhausting trying to be a working member of society and not another statistic. #disability #equality #work #healthcare

Powerful statement - and unfortunately for the companies who undertake hashtag #PerformativeAccessibility this is the case. Let's move this conversation along with hashtag #HR hashtag #HRProfessionals AND hashtag #Technology hashtag #Operations hashtag #Managers hashtag #CorporateRealEstate by asking: Why are the 27% of our employees or prospective employees with disabilities (Statistics Canada 2022) not disclosing their disability? Once you have commenced asking this question come talk with Optimal Performance and we will put into place the strategies, systems, culture and designs via hashtag #CRE to ensure people of all abilities in the workplace are included in all aspects of employment. hashtag #InclusiveDesign means employees won't have to disclose and will be able to perform at optimal levels on a consistent basis side by side with their fellow employees. Let's talk! [email protected]
