This article is interesting on how to transition from an EA position to your career choice. Administrative Assistants are the Jack of All Trades, the gatekeepers within their entity. If your resume has experience in only the Administrative/Clerical field, and you're career path is in Marketing per say. Most employers will reject or deny your application simply from the lack of experience an applicant may have.

I would actually take this a step further. So many people think an EA is just a scheduler, but I’d say that’s closer to what an administrative assistant can handle. An EA has to always be thinking ahead at what their exec(s) need, not just with scheduling, but with *everything.* In addition, how fast you can accomplish a task plays into our role as well. This is a great article for those who don’t understand the differences between an office manager, administrative assistant, and executive assistant.

Today I am not here to post that I am looking for a job, and how difficult it is to feel useless, like even if you have experience and studies, you feel that nobody wants you in their company. I understand that one of the main reasons that I am not to be trusted is because of my short time to work (mostly as receptionist). Unfortunately (I am not the only one) who has experienced exploitation at work: working standing up without being able to sit down, working 8.5 hours without a break because you are alone in a shift and you have to do multi-tasks for a salary (my goodness...) having to be available from Monday to Sunday and even on your holiday you might work.... Well, the thing is not the job position of receptionist in this case, it's the fact that you have interviews in the tourism sector and even if you have enough experience (not only receptionist but in tourist offices) you are not enough. I don't think you have to have other studies to work in the same sector, do you? To finish, it hurts me a lot to experience those E-Mails that they send you when they reject you and make you understand that they have chosen someone BETTER THAN YOU, someone with more AFFINITY... but it is not someone who writes that they don't want you in their company, it is a template that is not even written. I wish they would ever tell me what I lack, what the ideal employee needs... what qualities, what strengths and that if they rejected me they would tell me (look, we weren't convinced by this or you lack more experience in such and such). I think that in this world there is a lack of transparency, even if it hurts, it is always better to go with the truth in the face and not make people feel unemployed, like shit.

Navigating My First Day as an Administrative Assistant in Real Estate I recently started a new role as an Administrative Assistant in the real estate industry, and I learned quite a bit about the importance of clear expectations and communication. The position seemed promising, as the interview assured me of on-the-job training and support. However, on my first day, things didn’t unfold quite as I expected. Arriving at 9 a.m., I waited outside until 9:15 a.m. for the office to open, which set a somewhat unusual tone for the day. Although I mentioned that this was my first experience in real estate and was promised thorough guidance, my tasks quickly piled up. I was asked to contact 100 agents and coordinate meetings for our manager. Shortly afterward, I was given additional responsibilities involving complex logistical arrangements—sourcing items from various suppliers, handling transportation needs for a large group, and finding specific property listings, all within very tight timelines. As the day progressed, I found myself stretched across multiple roles, from sourcing quotes to conducting interviews, even assisting with office cleaning tasks. It was overwhelming, and I questioned whether these tasks aligned with my role as an Administrative Assistant. My lunch break slipped by unnoticed, with no mention of breaks or downtime, and I realized the importance of setting boundaries and asking for clarity in such situations. Here’s my advice for anyone in a similar position: Clarify Expectations Early: During onboarding, take time to discuss specific duties and daily routines with your manager to avoid misunderstandings. Knowing what is expected from you can help you prioritize and manage your workload. Set Boundaries Respectfully: If tasks exceed your job description or become unmanageable, have a candid conversation with your supervisor. Knowing your limits and communicating them can prevent burnout and ensure a more balanced workload. Seek Support When Needed: In a high-paced role, you’re not expected to have all the answers. Don’t hesitate to ask for help or seek guidance from your colleagues. Starting a new job can be challenging, and learning to manage both the tasks and workplace culture is key. I’m grateful for the experience, and I hope to grow from it by learning how to navigate new responsibilities with greater resilience and confidence. #AdministrativeAssistant #RealEstate #CareerJourney #WorkplaceExperience #ProfessionalGrowth

It's okay to align your job titles with industry-standard titles on a resume/LinkedIn profile. It's not okay to lie about your titles. This means that if you were titled Director of First Impressions, a Receptionist role, and you are looking for other Receptionist roles, change your title to Receptionist. This does not mean that if you were titled Director of First Impressions and you are looking for a project manager role, you should change your title to Project Manager. So what do you do in the case of the latter? If your work was more project management focused, then describe your role based on your project management responsibilities. Focus your content on your target positions. #resume #jobsearch
