💡 The Software Industry is Evolving: Welcome to the Era of Software-Delivered Services (SDS)! As an AI and tech strategist, I'm fascinated by this fundamental shift in how software companies are delivering value. Here's why every business leader should pay attention: 🎯 The Big Shift: • Moving from selling tools to selling outcomes • AI-powered companies now deliver actual work, not just workflows • Quality and accountability are becoming paramount 💼 What Makes SDS Different: 1. Accountability: Unlike traditional SaaS, SDS companies are responsible for the quality of work delivered 2. New Pricing Models: Moving away from per-seat pricing to usage-based billing 3. Cost Advantage: Offering professional services at ~10% of traditional costs through AI automation 🚀 Business Implications: • Traditional professional services firms may need to adapt or risk disruption • Quality assurance becomes mission-critical rather than an afterthought • Companies can access high-quality services at dramatically lower costs 👉 Real Examples in Action: • Customer Service: Companies like Sierra charging per resolved ticket • Immigration Services: Lighthouse handling visas through AI • Training: Exec.com providing AI-powered sales training This isn't just another tech buzzword - it's a fundamental reimagining of how businesses can deliver services at scale using AI. 💯 by Ardent Venture Partners Phil Bronner "Right now, it’s estimated that 70–80% of enterprise software is purchased off-the-shelf, with only 20%-30% being custom-built. But that’s about to change. Tomorrow’s reality looks quite different. We predict it could look something more like 60% custom, 40% off-the-shelf as AI flips the script on cost and feasibility." Colleagues CONSTANTLY ask me, "when are you going to do something more scalable than services?" This is why. We're building Prolego as a services company that scales with AI, not lines of code or staff. https://lnkd.in/esD3Bx_t

Is your enterprise software ready for the AI revolution? According to my colleague, the way we build and use software is fundamentally changing, and AI is at the forefront. Stay ahead of the curve by reading my colleague Joe Dwyer's latest post: https://lnkd.in/eDXvSk5E Here's a quick reality check for my fellow software peeps: - AI is boosting productivity, integrations, and user experiences at a crazy pace. Your software might become yesterday's news if it doesn't adapt. ⏰ - Switching costs are plummeting thanks to AI. Data migration and integration are becoming a breeze, making it easier for customers to jump ship. ⛴️ - Your customers might even ditch you altogether and build their own AI solutions. Imagine an AI assistant handling all those tasks your software currently does! The bottom line? Traditional software needs to brace itself for two major threats: - Disruption from AI-powered competitors: Newcomers with cutting-edge AI solutions can steal your market share in a flash. - Customers going the DIY AI route: Don't be surprised if customers decide to build their own AI solutions and bypass you entirely. Remember those "sticky forces" that used to protect incumbents? Domain expertise and switching costs? AI is chipping away at those too. The future of software involves AI assistants taking over many of the tasks your software handles today. #AI #EnterpriseSoftware #FutureOfWork #SoftwareDevelopment #ManifoldGroup

Service as Software vs. Software as a Service? (No, this isn’t my dyslexia kicking in or a philosophical question 😂 It’s the latest buzzword/phrase making its way around the Tech space.) So, what’s the difference? Traditional SaaS is rigid, a one-size-fits-all solution for any problem a company faces. Need a new feature? Wait for the next update. Have a unique workflow? Sorry, not in the product roadmap. But with AI, we’re entering a new era: 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲. With AI-driven solutions, we’re no longer just providing tools, we’re delivering services that adapt, learn, and produce results. As Forbes put it: “𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘘𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘢𝘹 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴—𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘐 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵.” Service as Software shifts the responsibility for outcomes from the user to the provider. AI doesn’t just hand over a tool, it delivers the service directly, ensuring the results you need. Is your software serving you? Or are you still adapting to it?

Service as a software - a new paradigm for performance and task accomplishment. Over the last several months, I have been gradually shifting the way I teach, design courses, and even grade papers. Previously, it was about me spending money on software applications to solve challenges of too little time, too many tasks, and a lack of flexibility in the solving the challenges that were presented. My bosses expect more, my students expect more, and my colleagues expect more - as we supposedly become more efficient and take on more tasks. Enter - service as a software. Over these last few months I have been abandoning software, apps and downloads (especially those with subscriptions) in favour of online services: ChatGPT, Copilot, Midjourney, Grammarly, etc... Yes, they are still subscription based, which I pay for out of pocket, but they also represent the new approach that #AI is taking - no more software downloads that we rely on (well, sorta, because there are definitely downloadable apps) to perform functions. Instead, the few apps we use serve more as gateway interfaces with the services we seek and they offer a direct link to the services we pay for. AI at its heart provides a variety of tool and source access and make day to day or mundane tasks that much easier. While still not a panacea or end-all, be-all solution, they nevertheless have begun to supplant the traditional software apps that we download and employ at the client level. Granted, they do still need some moderating and oversight, but they are definitely advancing rapidly in their capabilities and the services that they offer. We'll see how the #serviceasasoftware plays out in the future and how we can leverage them to support a wide variety of tasks. https://lnkd.in/gNAAQAPg

Most SaaS just provide software tools that users must adapt to and use to solve their problems. Service as a Software is an emerging concept in the SaaS (Software as a Service) space that focuses on the delivery of results and solving problems directly rather than just developing tools.
