🎤 Speaking across London Tech Week: Unlocking Funding & Growth Strategies Excited for the week ahead and speaking on stage during London Tech Week. Here’s a snapshot of where I’ll be and what I’ll be discussing: Tues 11th : I’ll be joining the UK Government Department for Business and Trade panel across Venture Capital and Angel Investing. For a full day event, we’ll dive into the UK investment landscape with a room full of global scale-up entrepreneurs. I'll be sharing strategies for navigating the current investment climate, scaling your business from UK and securing the right type of funding. I look forward to sharing the stage alongside Saul Klein OBE and Natalie Black CBE, spotlighting the UK as a global innovation hub. Weds 12th: I’ll be at Scotland House London with Foras to discuss early-stage fundraising and the investment landscape. Joining me will be Melanie Hayes from Bethnal Green Ventures, Daniel Sawko from shipshape.vc, and Patrycja Maksymowicz from sclr labs/Raising the Bar (RTB LDN), with Phin Mpofu-Masamba II Events are fully booked, and eager to meet everyone who can make it. There are two things I love about attending tech events: the energy and the networking opportunities. But my journey to London Tech Week and the Scotch & Pitches event organised by Foras was anything but smooth. I was super excited to attend, but I almost got lost on my way to the venue. Therefore, I had to rely on my phone's Google Maps, which decided to act up at the worst possible time. When I finally arrived, I couldn't find my name on the registration list. But after a few tense moments, I realised I had registered under a different email. Therefore, I got in just in time for the pitches. The event was buzzing with energy and excitement, but what really stood out were the different pitching styles. Some startups were very technical, therefore focusing on data and metrics. But then, the founder of Generalist World, Milly Tamati took the stage and told an incredible story about her childhood. She shared how people always told her she couldn't be a generalist and be knowledgeable in different areas, therefore inspiring her to start her business. Her story resonated with me because I consider myself a generalist too. But it wasn't just her; many other founders like Janani Prabhakaran, Angela Prentner-Smith (FRSA), Eilidh Mutch used storytelling to connect with the investors, therefore making their pitches memorable. The Foras team Dec McLaughlin, Caro Melendez 🔜 Turing Fest / Slush, known for their work in supporting Scottish startups, outdid themselves with this event. But their dedication to fostering innovation was clear throughout. Therefore, it's no wonder they attracted such a diverse and talented group of founders and investors. Despite the initial hiccups, attending Scotch & Pitches was an inspiring experience. The energy, the innovative ideas, and the powerful stories made it all worthwhile. But wait a minute, I didn’t see Lawal O. and the Econome team at the event. I wonder why? It was great catching up with Calum Purdie and Beena Sharma at the event. Tag someone who was at the event. NETWORK OR NOT TO NETWORK Yesterday in BKK at a bar I met one of the founders from our Los Angeles pitch competition. We discussed the value of a pitch competition. The founder didn't get into top-3, but met a person with whom they are discussing an investment and partnership. When I asked what did he think about judges. He kind of paused and said: it's my mistake, I was pitching for the first time in such a format, so I run away from judges. And it's not rare. Key take-aways: 1. networking with judges is as important as pitching 2. if you are not selected for a line-up you can still pitch - we have 1 spot for randomly selected startup from the audience 3. if you are not pitching you still should approach judges and network with us P.S.: I'll release the line-up in a few hours. If you are not selected for tomorrow, but would in NYC on 19th of November, I'll consider you for that competition 🤘

On the 22nd of April 2024, in the heart of Mayfair, Rare Founders is set to redefine the usual post-accelerator #demoday by combining an investor and founder focused conference with London's largest demo day yet. Together with SeedLegals, we will be bridging panels, masterclasses, and talks created specifically for investors and founders; and all of that will be delivered while 100 pre-selected founders will be pitching to the audience of investors throughout the day.
