Labour’s £8.3 billion GB Energy plan Keir Starmer recently announced that GB Energy, a state-owned renewable energy company, and one of Labour's flagship policies, will use the country's surrounding seabed to house offshore wind farms 💨 The Crown Estate has pledged an investment of £3.3bn in small-scale energy projects, and £5bn to help larger projects gather wind in their sails. The GB Energy plan will (hopefully) result in £60bn of private investment into the country AND cheaper energy bills. Artificial Intelligence impact? GB Energy is implementing the LOAF Gen AI24 framework, which will leverage AI and machine learning algorithms to assist in the planning and execution of Britain's energy transition. The framework utilises its open-source Large Language Model to analyse immense amounts of data on emerging technologies, which then allows for detailed scenario simulation and prediction of potential 'holes' in Labour's ambitious energy plan. Let's hope Starmer and his GB Energy plan will deliver on their promise of 100% clean power by 2030 and reduce our soaring energy bills. #climatech #GBEnergy #ai #LOAFGenAI24

Building new infrastructure will be a key part of Europe’s energy transition. But we shouldn't race to construct new pylons and power lines. Hidden in plain sight, a significant amount of additional capacity lies within the existing power grid. Unlocking it would reduce the amount of new transmission required to meet net zero goals - and the time and investment this incurs. At Neara, we’re supporting utilities to find latent capacity in the grid, enabling more renewable energy to be connected both safely and at a faster rate. We cannot afford to overlook the wasted potential of our existing infrastructure any longer. Harnessing it will help us reach Net Zero sooner, and at a fraction of the cost. https://lnkd.in/es7hXa6Z #NetZero #pylons #powerlines #AI #climatetech #powergrid

A fascinating half-day meeting full of insights from leading experts into the need to up-grade the European #grid in order to #decarbonise, and how this needs to be achieved. Key takeaways were: • Need to triple the #EU grid size to provide the capacity required to meet decarbonisation targets • Overhead lines are not consentable in Europe at scale – so undergrounding is essential • HVDC will be required for transmission grid – likely superconductors best option • 9x faster growth of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in next six years than in the past decade – mostly in the North Sea • Europe will need to invest €584bn by 2030 • Achieving integration of all #RenewableEnergy sources in the next fifteen years is going to be a huge challenge – it will need a ‘moonshot’ approach and acceptance that the rules need to change • Renewable #investment will only happen if the grid is there to deliver it – and vice versa • Governments are finally realising that grid is key to achieving #NetZero targets • Europe imported nearly €60bn per month of #Energy products in 2022 – switching to renewables will decrease reliance on other countries and save money Speakers: Layla Sawyer, General of CurrENT Europe (Moderator) John Fitzgerald, CEO of SuperNode Ltd Professor Dirk Van Hertem, KU Leuven Professor Lie Xu, University of Strathclyde Dr Eoin Hodge, Chief Engineer, SuperNode Ltd Antje Orths, Chief Engineer Energinet and Core Group Convenor ENTSO-E EU Eric Lecomte, DG Energy European Commission Christian Kjaer, Chair of CurrENT Europe and SuperNode Ltd Chief Public Affairs Officer Huge thanks to all the speakers and currENT, the organisers.

Europe has ambitious climate targets and it wants to reach them without becoming even more reliant on technologies produced by foreign powers, especially China. A new report by the EU Institute for Security Studies has identified four key technologies that have huge potential to both decarbonise the Europe's economy and promote its sovereignty. One of them, geothermal energy, is a personal favourite. We really ought to be harnessing more of the Earth's heat — it just makes sense. Mentioned: Lukas Trakimavičius Eavor Technologies Inc.
