Summer vacation is closing in for many of us in Norway, and like last year, that's also when Aize welcomes a new group of summer interns. This year we have 10 students joining us for 6 weeks in our new offices at Aker Tech House 🚀   The students will be divided into two teams and spend their time tackling the following challenges: 🤝 Coollab: Enable multiple users to collaborate in the 2D/3D surfaces synchronously 📃 DocuMentals: Enhance the efficiency and accuracy of generating RegEx configurations used to extract tags from documents.   Like last year, we asked all of Aize to think of relevant cases. Out of the many suggestions we got, we managed to narrow it down to two that are highly relevant for Aize and give the students a chance to work on challenges they actually could have faced if they were permanent employees in Aize.   I really believe in giving the students an experience that resembles the Aize experience as accurately as possible. On the one hand, it gives Aize unique insight into how the students actually handle challenges they could face as a permanent Aize employee. On the other hand, it gives the students a unique insight into how it's like working in Aize. So, essentially allowing both parties to be really well informed, and uniquely positioned to make a good decision when we start talking about permanent employment at the end of the internship.   Really excited to see what this group of talented students will be able to achieve in six weeks! This year, Aker Solutions, along with Cognite, TESS as, and Createc, kicked off Norwegian spring cleaning by introducing Aker Solutions' first "Robot Garden"!  Robot Garden is an interactive test- and training location for industry robotics at our Fornebu location in Oslo, Norway. The 'garden' is a place where companies can try out autonomous robotics in a safe setting before launching new products. Exciting news! ✨ Wärtsilä and WISE are part of a consortium exploring the hydrogen-argon power cycle. We’re thrilled to announce that Wärtsilä has joined the Integrated Hydrogen-Argon Power Cycle (iHAPC) consortium led by the University of Vaasa. The research will focus on the use of argon – a non-toxic ideal gas present in the atmosphere – to increase efficiency of balancing engines, using a closed loop combustion cycle. This research will happen under the WISE – Wide and Intelligent Sustainable Energy umbrella that is lead by Wärtsilä and funded by Business Finland.  💬Rasmus Teir, Director of Sustainability & Future Plant Concepts at Wärtsilä Energy, says: “We have the technologies needed to deliver a 100% renewable energy future. We are excited to highlight our distributor Gisli Gudmundsson, from HD Technical Services, who is bringing condition monitoring technology to the Icelandic market. 1. How did you discover vibration analysis and what made you want to get into it? I started my career in non-destructive testing (NDT) because of its crucial role in ensuring the safety and longevity of structures and equipment. I discovered vibration analysis while collaborating on projects requiring real-time equipment health monitoring. It intrigued me because it provides deep insights into machinery performance, identifying issues before they become major problems. The predictive power of vibration analysis allows for proactive maintenance, minimizes downtime, and supports asset longevity. By expanding my skills, I've been able to offer a more comprehensive approach to equipment health monitoring. 2. What do you like most about your work at HD Technical Services? The thing I like most about my work at HD Technical Services is the ability to make a tangible impact on our clients’ operations. By identifying potential issues early, clients can avoid costly repairs, reduce downtime, and maintain safe, efficient operations. This field combines technical skills with problem-solving, bringing new challenges and learning opportunities. The collaborative environment at HD Technical Services is fantastic, surrounded by knowledgeable professionals committed to quality and innovation. 3. How has predictive maintenance evolved in Iceland? Is it sufficiently established? Predictive maintenance in Iceland has progressed significantly, though it's still developing. Many industries are shifting from reactive or scheduled maintenance to predictive approaches, recognizing the benefits of IoT, AI, and machine learning. It's particularly valuable in managing critical assets in sustainable energy sectors, given Iceland's harsh environmental conditions. While awareness and adoption are growing, there's still room for expansion. Companies are investing in specialized equipment and software, but widespread implementation requires ongoing training, infrastructure, and local expertise. 4. Which TWave T8 tool do you find most useful in your daily work? The TWave T8 has a range of tools, but if I had to pick the most useful one in my daily work, it would likely be the real-time vibration monitoring and diagnostic tool. It allows early detection of potential issues, providing invaluable insights into machinery health and performance. 📢 Join upcoming NFES Stavanger Technical Meeting 📢 Please find below information about the next NFES meeting, to be held at Solastranden Gård, Wednesday, 4th of December 2024, at 11:00. This meeting will feature two presentations, each 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A First Presentation: 'Obtaining Remaining Oil Saturation For The Johan Sverdrup Field From a Variety of Logging Data' by Brice Fortier, Equinor The presentation will discuss the case of the dedicated to waterflooding observation well, which plays a crucial role in this strategy. Drilling the well at the right time allowed for a full set of open hole logs to fully characterize the reservoir and fluid . The well was completed with a non-perforated cemented liner. Pulsed neutron logs are conducted every 3 months to monitor shoreline evolution and estimate in situ water saturation (Sw). These observations contribute to the reservoir and petro-elastic models and confirm their overall accuracy. Second presentation: 'Reservoir fluid properties from cuttings: An innovative Synergy of Gel Permeation Chromatography and Data Analytics' by Alexandra Cely, Equinor The presentation will discuss the application of GPC coupled with both Ultraviolet (UV) and refractive index (RI) detectors to generate multi-detector spectra from reservoir fluids and cuttings extracts originating from six distinct fields situated in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The technique is deployed to analyze oil samples, encompassing a wide range of reservoir fluid types, including condensates, volatile oils, black oils, and heavy oils. This technology has large potential to transform each drill-cutting fragment into a PVT (Pressure-Volume-Temperature) sample and contributes significantly to unlocking the latent value within the cuttings, which are readily available and offer access to reservoir fluid properties at an early stage in field development, including the drilling phase. What are must-haves in an office 2026? Before summer vacations, the news came out that Wärtsilä continues to invest in Vaasa, and will expand the Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaskiluoto. The planning off the office extension is in full speed and will be completed in mid-2026. When we were planning the already existing facilities and setting the requirements back in 2019, pretty much no-one was working from home. Needless to say, covid-19 had a huge impact on remote/hybrid work and the role of the office. Since the office was opened in 2021, the recommendation has been to work 40% remote and 60% in the office. We are taking in all learnings from our experiences since 2021 into the planning of the extension. We have recognized needs of more colliding spaces like cozy coffee areas and more large meeting / collaboration rooms. Finding a working station/desk has rarely been a problem. The role of the office seems to be to bring people together to discuss and collaborate. I can't help wondering, are we missing something? What will future work forces require from an office? To my understanding, many students today have done most parts of their studies remote. Do they even want an office? If your office was about to extend, what would you make sure is included in the requirements? What makes you come to the office a few days a week? #Wärtsilä #STH
