In order to meet the International Energy Assocation’s target of net zero emissions by 2050, we need to annually capture and store 1.2 gigatonnes of CO2 by 2030. This is roughly equivalent to the weight of 240 million adult African elephants. The world currently captures 50 million tonnes a year - 4% of the 2030 requirement. Even with dramatically increased investment in planned new projects, we will be lucky to get to 40% of the required number by 2030. The XPRIZE Carbon Capture competition, with a prize purse of $100m, has seen a number of credible new technologies that have the potential to scale annual capture to gigatonne level. The competition has had a dramatic impact on innovation and investment, with some truly remarkable technologies on display, not only amongst the 20 finalists. And also very gratifying seeing an African presence amongst the finalists. Innovation is global…. #XPRIZE
#ICYMI — meet the 20 finalists advancing to the final stage of the #XPRIZECarbonRemoval competition. These companies stand at the forefront of cutting-edge CDR solutions shaping the industry today. We are 1 of 5 nominees for the Norwegian Research Council’s Innovation Award, and I feel a bit humbled when I see who we’re nominated alongside: 🤖 1X – leaders in robotics on a global scale 🤕 ABEL Technologies – fighting workplace absenteeism 🌲 NINA and Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) – using AI to map deforestation in Norway ⚓️ Maritime Robotics AS – developing technology for unmanned vessels at sea The Innovation Award recognizes those who have created innovation through the strategic use of research. For us at ECOnnect Energy, the emphasis on "strategic use" is key. Innovation is about moving the world forward. It’s not enough to develop something new—it must also reach the market to make an impact. To put it bluntly: there’s no point in developing something if we can’t bring it to customers who can experience the value of the innovation. We’re looking forward to the award ceremony on November 26th, in excellent company. Thank you, Norges forskningsråd!
This is a big deal for us: We’re honored to be nominated for the Norwegian Research Council’s (Norges forskningsråd) Innovation Award! 💡 We’re thrilled to be in the company of incredible finalists: 1X Technologies, Abel Technologies, NINA - Norsk institutt for naturforskning/Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), and Maritime Robotics AS. The award will be presented on November 26th, and we can’t wait to celebrate innovation together. – Innovation is central to what we do at ECOnnect Energy, and this recognition reinforces the importance of staying focused on tackling complex energy challenges. We’re grateful for this honor, as it motivates us to keep pushing boundaries and deepens our dedication to making a lasting impact, says our CEO and Founder, Morten A. Christophersen. While it might seem like we’re all about collecting awards this fall, rest assured—there’s plenty of other exciting things happening behind the scenes. Stay tuned for what’s next! 🚀 #Innovation #EnergyInnovation #ResearchCouncilOfNorway #ECOnnectEnergy
