To our partners, colleagues, and everyone working to restore marine ecosystems and advance the blue economy – thank you for your vision and dedication. 🌍 From all of us at Kelp Blue, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a well-deserved break 🌊 #christmas #holiday #break #season #ocean #seaweed #giantkelp
Over ons
We grow giant kelp forests around the globe to boost the health of the oceans and to store CO2. We harvest only the kelp canopy. From this we make biostimulants, a product that allows farmers to drastically reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers. Biostimulants increase: -plants ability to tolerate climactic stress and -yields. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Per year, humanity is using natural capital 1.7 times as fast as Earth can renew it. For our futures sake, this must change. Cost-effective, long term and environmentally sustainable alternatives must be found to restore the planet to equilibrium, or even abundance. Why is Kelp Blue an answer? Giant Kelp one of the fastest growing organism on the planet and is well suited for use in a range of products from high quality pharma/neutraceuticals to fertiliser, animal feed, dietary supplements and textiles. Growing the marketplace for existing kelp products as well as using giant kelp derivatives to displace environmentally damaging alternatives will help restore the planets equilibrium; growing kelp requires no fertilisers, no pesticides, no land and no fresh water. But more importantly, it has the ability to draw down more CO2 than terrestrial forests while boosting marine biodiversity and improving fish stocks. Why KELP BLUE? We are passionate about scaling a profitable nature-based solution that will help reverse climate change. Our model can quickly grow across different markets helping to change the course of multiple industries from being environmentally damaging to being environmentally positive.

Kelp Blue had the privilege of showcasing our initiatives at the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (The Ocean Panel) held in Walvis 🌊 The Ocean Panel aims to advance a more prosperous and resilient future for people and the planet. A great fit with the values and 200 year vision at Kelp Blue. Hosted and organized by the Ministery of Fisheries and Marine Resources, the event brought together ministers and ambassadors from 19 member states, all dedicated to fostering global cooperation for a sustainable ocean economy 🌍 Discussions focused on global collaboration for a sustainable ocean economy. It provided us with an excellent opportunity to highlight the type of work we do at Kelp Blue: enhancing marine biodiversity, capturing carbon, and revitalizing ecosystems 🐠🪸 Thank you to our team of Kelpies who attended: Josephine Edward, Head of Marine Monitoring, Fabian Shaanika, Managing Director Namibia, and Protasius Mutjida, Water Quality and Technology Lead. Thank you for having us 🙏 and we hope to meet again soon. #sustainable #ocean #economy #people #planet #ocean #panel #ministery #fisheries #marine #resources

Happy harvesting! 🌊 Our team of Kelpies went to sea earlier this week for another succesful harvest to trim a fraction of our giant kelp forests. Our underwater forests are about 15 meters tall, and home to hundreds of marine species like crayfish and sardines, but also dolphines and penguins 🐧 Kelpies go out to harvest up to multiple times a week. The canopy biomass is then processed into a biostimulant – a liquid kelp extract that, when applied to agricultural fields, aids farmers to maximize their farms' profits, and minimize farming inputs. If you want to know more about our biostimulant, reach out to Kelp Blue Biotech Ag. Why do we farm Giant Kelp at Kelp Blue? 🌊 Giant kelp is an ecosystem engineer. It creates habitats for marine life, sequesters carbon, and plays a vital role in maintaining ocean health. Oxygen levels in the ocean increase, acidity levels decrease. Cultivating kelp lets us work with nature without disturbing the vast marine life in the ocean. Here’s why it works: 🌱 Ecosystem-friendly: Wild kelp forests remain untouched, preserving biodiversity and capturing carbon. 🌱 Reliable supply: Farming ensures a consistent, high-quality resource without depleting natural stocks. 🌱 Scalable solutions: Cultivating kelp allows us to grow sustainably while meeting increasing demand. Cultivating Giant Kelp supports both the ocean and the planet. It’s a win-win. 📸 Our kelp forests are so beautiful, it’s hard to take a bad photo of them. #giantkelp #seaweed #forests #underwater #ocean #kelp #cultivating #farming #scaling #supply #ecosystem

Kelp forests act as eco-system engineers by adding structure and habitat for marine life 🐠 What does that mean, being an eco-system engineer? Kelp actively shapes and supports the environment around it. Here is how: 🔹 Habitat Creator – Kelp forests are underwater homes, offering shelter and food to countless marine species, from tiny invertebrates to fish and even marine mammals. Kelpies in the marine monitoring team have detected over 800 new species in and around our seaweed forests! 🔹 Coastal Protector – By buffering waves and currents, kelp helps protect shorelines from erosion. Just like forests on land shield the soil from wind and rain. 🔹 Carbon Removal – Kelp absorbs CO₂ as it grows, playing a big role in fighting climate change, reducing ocean acidity, and increasing oxygen levels for the marine biodiversity. 🔹 Nutrient Recycler – As kelp grows, it cycles nutrients, enriching ocean ecosystems. Even though giant kelp forests are beautiful to look at, they also play a vital role in ocean health and conservation. #seaweed #kelp #forest #ocean #ecosystems #marine #biodiversity #environment

Our Almond cultivation results are in from an accredited field trial agency [7/63 - 2024 results] showing a decrease in water usage and increase in yield ✅ 🔬 Trial Details: From March to November 2024, we tested StimBlue+ on almonds under standard and drought-stress conditions in Turkey. The results highlight a potential breakthrough for farmers navigating increasing water scarcity. 📣 Why this matters for Farmers: With climate change intensifying water shortages, efficient resource use has become essential. StimBlue+ showed remarkable potential to support farmers by significantly reducing water needs while maintaining yield. 🥇 Water Savings: Almond plots treated with StimBlue+ required 30% less water than control plots, yet showed only a yield difference of 10%. This translates to a water saving of 28,000 liters per hectare (!). 👉The question that arises is, does it make sense for farmers to pay for 28K liters of water for only a +10% yield increase? 🥇 Higher Yields: StimBlue+ improved the number and weight of almonds per tree, leading to a 15–17% increase in yield compared to control plots under normal conditions. In drought-stressed plots, yield gains were still notable at 8–15%. 🥇 Economic Impact: Farmers using StimBlue+ saw additional revenue of $1,500–$1,600 per hectare, showcasing its value as both a productivity and profitability enhancer. 🥇 Seed Vigor: Seeds treated with StimBlue+ demonstrated improved vigor compared to both control and competitor products. Stronger seed vigor translates to better germination, resilience, and overall crop performance—essential for long-term productivity. 👉 Reach out to us via the website if you haven't tested StimBlue+ on your almonds yet: https://lnkd.in/ebJ89_wZ 📩 📖 Want to dive deeper into the data? Kelp Blue records signs of recovery in extinct fish species in Namibia Kelp Blue has recorded promising signs of ecosystem restoration in its kelp forests, potentially benefiting extinct fish species like sardines. The company, founded in 2020, harvests kelp canopy year-round to produce alternative agri-food, bio-stimulant, and textile products at the world’s first large-scale kelp farm off the coast of Namibia, near Lüderitz.
