Our values at Little Village include Love and Solidarity. They’re the ones people cite most often when coming for an interview.  Values are only useful if you act on them, though. I’ve been reflecting this while considering how I, and we at Little Village, can respond to the horrendous violence, racism and Islamophobia we’ve seen over the past few days. As a white woman, I have the privilege of knowing that I can go about my day without worrying about being attacked for my race or religion. That isn’t the case for everyone at Little Village (staff and volunteers), for our team’s families and friends, or for many of the (often very vulnerable) families that we’re supporting. What is happening is terrifying and very often re-triggering. So acting in solidarity is critically important – reaching out to our teams, having reflected on the fact that people may be nervous about travelling, or are traumatised by footage they’ve seen on TV or social media. Re-sharing our Employee Assistance Programme details. Doubling down on our DEI work. Acting with love to, as far as we can (sometimes virtually), wrap our arms around those who are terrified, and continue to build a ‘village’ of support. This is long term work, but feels even more important today. 

What Day Is It? Giving Tuesday! There are so many "Days" each year. This "day" more than most - deserves to be recognized and acted on! In fact, every day should be a "Giving" day - Don't you think?
