However, yesterdays announcement regarding Manchester City's new partnership with Quidd, an NFT marketplace, prompts significant skepticism about its viability.🚨🚨🚨 Quidd will serve as the exclusive platform for fans to acquire unique digital assets, offering special benefits including merchandise, hospitality tickets, and exclusive experiences—all aimed at enhancing fan appreciation. Despite these features, here are my concerns about why it might not succeed: Significant Sponsorship Costs: The hefty sponsorship fees required by Manchester City are unlikely to be justified by the demand for these NFTs. Experience from previous bull runs has shown that when clubs engage with third-party platforms hoping for a positive return on investment, the outcomes have been consistently disappointing. Unless this is merely a branding exercise, which I doubt, it’s financially unfeasible. 🤔Fan Confusion: Within just a week, Manchester City has announced two separate NFT drops on two different platforms. This can confuse fans, particularly those who are already wary of NFTs, thereby complicating their purchasing process. Redundant Rewards: The rewards being offered are too similar to past initiatives with Socios, offering nothing novel to the fans. This redundancy suggests a lack of innovation in engaging the fanbase. Problematic Terminology: The use of the term 'NFTs' could alienate a substantial portion of the fanbase. Previous examples from other clubs have shown that the term has negative connotations among fans, which diminishes interest and hampers demand. While I appreciated the innovative approach of the earlier free-to-mint campaign from Manchester City Football Club and OKX, this new partnership feels outdated and improperly timed, reminiscent of strategies from three years ago that no longer resonate with current market dynamics. (if you are an esports fan, player or somehow involved in esports, I appreciate a a like and a repost) That’s exactly the reality we faced as we sought to compete in Tier 2 Valorant. When Riot reduced the 2 - year franchise slot to just one year, it felt like a slap in the face. That’s when we began to reconsider our place in the game. We weren’t alone - others felt it too. After winning champs in 2021, we were invited to apply for the VCT Franchise. It felt like everything was coming together. We even secured a final 20 spot and flew to Berlin to pitch our plans in front of the decision-makers. But we didn’t make the cut. Surprisingly, we weren’t too upset. Why? Well, the competing orgs had a lot more experience, a bigger fanbase, and significantly larger budgets.

Guild Esports PLC (LSE:GILD, OTCQB:GULDF) has signed a letter of intent that will see 100% of its assets and liabilities transferred to California-based investment management company DCB Sports. If the deal is completed, DCB Sports will take over the Guild brand, ensuring future working capital and enabling stable financial operations, allowing Guild to continue developing partnerships with studios and creatives both domestically and abroad. Whilst it may come as a bit of a surprise to some that FC Barcelona has made their new OTT service free of charge, it makes a lot of sense for a few reasons: 1. Amidst the rumors of a split with Nike, an ad-based platform will offer better bargaining power for any new manufacturer or indeed sponsor negotiations. 2. Fans have come to expect non-match content for free. 3. More viewers means more data. It will present an opportunity to grow their audience even more and nurture those relationships. Providing our publishers with a vehicle to better understand fan data is a huge focus at Recast and we've got some exciting things coming soon 👀 But is this move by Barcelona just the start of something larger?
