The farmers kids in the future will pay for the mistakes (overuse of pesticides now, bad treatment of soils in general, etc.) of the actual farmer generation, as already the current farmers are paying for the mistakes of their fathers (see PFAS in soils in TG and SG). Swiss Government supports now these farmers and in the future also the kids will ask for support of the goverment who leads now in the wrong direction. When will we get out of this nonsens? The biodiversity initiative would have been a chance. Another loss of precious time caused by right-wing populist mood in Switzerland.

🌍 As #COP16 is well underway in Cali, Colombia, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) published an interview with our Executive Director Stefanie Lang. F.A.Z.’s Dr. Katja Gelinsky LL.M. sat down with Stefanie to discuss what is at stake at this summit, as well as the unique contribution LLF makes to global nature conservation. Here are our key takeaways: 🌿 Urgent Need for Funding in Biodiversity Hotspots: There is a significant financial gap in conservation efforts, particularly in biodiversity-rich regions of the Global South like Colombia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These biodiversity hot spots are essentially "biodiversity banks," essential for the preservation and regeneration of ecosystems. 🌿 LLF's Role in Protecting Biodiversity and Climate: With biodiversity loss threatening both ecosystems and the global economy, the Legacy Landscape Fund (LLF) offers a proven, high-impact funding model. LLF is already supporting 15 key landscapes across Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Today, that economic value builds on extractive activities. We gain from nature destruction, not from conversation. That must, and can change. ◾ Nature as Critical Infrastructure: We liken nature to essential infrastructure, stating that, like roads or railways, ecosystems need ongoing maintenance and expansion investment to prevent degradation, such as erosion, salinization, and deforestation. ◾ Reversal of incentives: We emphasize the need for a financial system that rewards businesses for protecting ecosystems through access to critical ecosystem services, lower capital & insurance costs and an extended license to operate. ◾ The role of NatureFinTech: A new generation of technology companies helps us to quantify ecosystem health (e.g., water retention, carbon storage) and understand the condition of nature and to reward land stewards for providing natural capital. ◾ The Biodiversity Convention as an opportunity: In this week's global Biodiversity summit (COP16) in Cali, a growing number community of central bankers, finacial ministers, asset managers, business leaders, economists and work with scientists and nature activists to find ways "to bring nature on our collective balance sheet" - and to ensure it is amply available for generations to come.

Vandaag is de internationale dag van de inheemse volkeren. In Geopark Schelde Delta kun je niet echt spreken van inheemse volken die voor een bestaansrecht moeten opkomen. Dikwijls speelt een koloniaal verleden of een voormalige onderdrukking hier een belangrijke rol. Binnen het netwerk van Geoparken zijn er echter veel Geoparken waar inheemse bevolkingsgroepen leven. Als gezamenlijke Geoparken wereldwijd hebben wij de taak aandacht hiervoor te hebben en te leren van hun kennis die dikwijls enorm sterk verbonden is met het landschap, de bodem en het water. It is with such great honour and privilege to have been among the participants out of the 9000 applicants, who applied to have been selected and represent #kenyanyouthbiodiversitynetwork, #globalyouthbiodiversitynetwork and my country in this honourable conference, International Youth Conference on Biodiversity @Yokohama City. Such a profound experience I must say. I was challenged with some of the sessions while equally contributed my know how and skills in most of the sessions. I am much grateful for the networks was able to make with participants from various parts of the world. It's with hope to hold on this connections for the better of our future as young people as well as future generations. Just but to mention some few highlights; I appreciate the warm reception with the Mayor into the City of Yokohama, Mr. Takeharu Yamanaka and the Ministry of Environment Japan on our arrival into Japan. Learnt and shared the importance of our stories and seed words of interconnection by application of systems thinking. Another session contributed to reflecting on our actions (younger gen.), learning from our experiences through weaving a new story on our global biodiversity actions. Able to learn about disaster risk reduction & management at the learning centre of Yokohama especially on how they were able to recover from the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake that struck Tokyo-Yokohama. Contributed to a session on Injustices and threats to environment, biodiversity values, Indigenous people/youths and youths activism to contribute policy/ governance and being part of decision makers. A lengthy discussion on our country's #NBSAP's and ##Kunming-MontrealGBF on halting biodiversity loas trying to figure it out collectively within the different regions.
