This is absolutely diabolical. The expectation is for one 2,000-word article as a MINIMUM EACH DAY (including research and editing). This is a 40-hour week with a 30-minute break (although it’s also offered as a remote role so not sure how that works). Remuneration is £22,308 per year. A salary calculator tells me this is equivalent to £85.80 gross or £75.31 take home pay per day. You can get sniffy about the minor differences between article writers/content writers/copywriters but the average day rate for a copywriter is £440. Good writers, whatever you might want to label them as, charge according to experience, expertise and professionalism. So, if you’re tempted to post for a role like this, can I just ask what you think the quality of work will be a) in general and b) by the end of the 40-hour week having written 2,000 words each day. There are multiple roles that come with being a freelance writer, especially if you work alone. I'm discovering that "writer" is one of the easiest. You have also to be ⦿ A student. ► You have to always learn. ⦿ A marketer. ► You have to market yourself to potential clients. ⦿ An IT person. ► You have to manage the technical side of working remotely (like your laptop refusing to boot out of the blue). ⦿ A finance manager. ► It's not fun. But you have to chase payments sometimes. ⦿ A personal assistant. ► Yup. You need to remind yourself to meet due dates, attend meetings, and follow up on emails. If you have a scheduler, you still need to give yourself little pep talks throughout the day to achieve your goals (at least, I do). These are aside all the work that goes into writing an article. If you're hiring a freelance writer and you're based in the U.S., why does the writer also need to be based in the U.S.? They're a freelancer, not an employee, so you're not offering them insurance, 401(k) plan, or other U.S.-specific benefits. Their primary task will be producing articles/blog posts/other written materials which is typically done pretty autonomously, so they probably don't need to collaborate with you in real time. Maybe you need to have the occasional call with your freelance writer. You can likely find a time that works for both of you, even if they're on the other side of the world. So I'm genuinely asking: Why do you only want to hire a freelance writer who's based in the U.S.?

And I got excited about the opportunity. 🤠 Then, I asked, “How many words do you need in a day, and what are you offering 💰 ?” Get ready, folks, for some top-notch answers. 🚀 Words needed per day -> 4000 – 6000 words 🚀 PPW -> 30 paise per word I was stupefied 🙀 . I wanted to cut the call then and there but maintained my professional front. I said, “SORRY.” But, seriously, 🤔 what is going on in the content writing industry? How did the KING become so cheap, and we, the content writers – the KING MAKERS – are being offered peanuts for our job? Why aren’t even good companies willing to pay a fair price? And who can write 4000 – 6000 words daily and deliver top-notch articles? I mean, even the first step of writing – research – can sometimes take a couple of days. ________________________________________________________________________________ Has this happened to you, too?      

Hundreds of freelancers apply for writing jobs and gigs. But only a handful - often just three people - are actual contenders. Why is this the case? From my experience and other people's, it comes down to simply not fitting the requirements. Someone who wants a copywriter will not be interested in a freelancer with blog writing experience only. If they're looking for expertise in the health niche, they won't look at writer portfolios focused on finance. They fail to answer questions the hiring person asks. (Never underestimate small requests like including a specific keyword or answering a non-invasive personal question) They don't have enough experience. They lack a portfolio that shows their work.
