OIX calls on new UK government to accelerate digital ID rollout “Digital ID can unlock significant value for individuals, businesses and the UK economy,” says OIX Identity Development Director Gareth Narinesingh. “Over time, it will become the core component of a critical global digital infrastructure. If the UK wants to enhance its global influence, attract international partnerships and foster trade relations, it needs a clear, long-term plan for digital ID. While the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) is a solid start, it needs to evolve, and quickly.” – Biometric Update #digitalID #trustframeworks #digitalinfrastructure https://loom.ly/mKpXge8

INTERNATIONAL NEWS: OIX calls on new UK government to accelerate digital ID rollout 🇬🇧 The OIX - Open Identity Exchange has urged the UK government to develop a comprehensive digital wallet strategy, clarify how digital IDs will be used across both the public and private sectors, and take a leading role in ensuring these IDs work internationally. In a letter to Secretary of State Peter Kyle, OIX emphasized that while the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) is a good start, it needs rapid evolution. OIX highlighted that digital IDs could significantly boost the UK economy and efficiency in various sectors, advocating for digital versions of common identification like driver’s licenses and passports, and for the private sector to be involved in issuing these credentials. The organization also stressed the importance of interoperability with the EU's digital identity systems to enhance global trade and influence. h/t Biometric Update #digitalID #digitalwallet #interoperability https://lnkd.in/gmTceJRU

As a result of all the dedication and commitment to #digitalidentity I am really pleased and proud that the European Union has finally passed a vote to implement a far-reaching digital identity framework. This is the most ambitious digital identity project that the world has ever seen! Congratulations to the many stakeholders and sponsors who have been involved in this work to date. The new European Digital Identity Wallet will be entirely voluntary to use, but citizens who choose to adopt will be issued their identity wallets by their national member state. The identity wallets will be entirely secure and private by design. Use of digital identity wallets in this way will promote convenience, efficiency and safety for online transactions and will slowly begin to change the way EU citizens engage with the digital world around them over the next 5 years. There will be many challenges in the journey ahead (not least that we do not yet clearly understand the business model) but my gut feel is that this is now the end of the beginning phase of a huge digital transformation on a continental scale. https://lnkd.in/eB_RNTS3

A group of organisations including techUK, the Open Identity Exchange and the City of London Corporation have published an open letter to the incoming Government emphasising the importance of digital verification and the need for a Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework. Efforts to boost the momentum for digital verification received a setback when the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill was lost in the 'wash up' of the pre-election Parliament - but the letter makes clear that plenty of organisations with an interest in the concept think it is imperative to keep pushing. Worth noting that, while they emphasise the need to support the economy, this will also be a significant element of future public services, with the continual pressure for accuracy in people proving they are who they claim to be. https://lnkd.in/e7immE9m #digitalidentity

INTERNATIONAL NEWS: OIX: Digital ID is in a ‘critical phase’ globally The digital identity sector is evolving, but it's facing challenges, especially in the UK, where public skepticism about national ID programs complicates progress. Gareth Narinesingh, identity development director at Open Identity Exchange (OIX), highlights that while technology is advancing, the focus needs to shift toward solving real-world problems and building trust. The UK’s Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) is crucial in creating a secure, interoperable system, but there's still work to be done. As Gareth puts it, “Digital identity is not an easy thing to understand, let alone progress,” emphasizing the need for clarity and trust in this critical phase of global digital ID development. h/t Biometric Update Gareth Narinesingh Nick Mothershaw #digitalID #digitaltrust #digitalgovernance https://lnkd.in/dUg_NUQi

Why Is Decentralized Identity Important for Individuals? Decentralized identity gives people control, privacy, and ownership over their personal data. With DID, individuals don’t rely on centralized platforms, making it a truly user-first approach to online identity. 🛡️ Fully own and control their data: Individuals hold the keys to their own data, deciding who sees what. 🔍 Prove their claims without depending on any party: No intermediaries are needed to verify identities—individuals can authenticate themselves securely. 🚫 Prevent device and data tracking as they browse websites: Personal information is protected from trackers, securing online privacy. 👥 Choose who they want to share their relevant information to: Instead of sharing everything, individuals can reveal only what's necessary for each service. 📱 No entity can take away their decentralized identity once they are stored on their mobile digital identity wallets: Permanently stored, these identities stay with the individual, with no central authority able to interfere. 🔒 Prevent the spread of their data without their knowledge: Personal data won’t leak or be shared without explicit consent, reducing risks of exploitation. Decentralized identity is here to safeguard control, privacy, and ownership. With DID, individuals are no longer dependent on centralized platforms, creating a genuinely user-centric approach to online identity. #DecentralizedIdentity #Web3 #Platsnetwork

IDnow embarks on digitalization of identity for up to 40 million German residents. We recently announced our cooperation with the European netID Foundation. The goal: The introduction of an identity wallet for netID users in Germany. Developed by #IDnow, the netID Wallet app will be available for users to download later this year and will allow them to reuse and share stored digital identities. Why is this important? 💡 The wallet is another step toward the future: It is the expressed goal of the EU that all citizens have a #DigitalIdentity by 2030. The launch of the netID Wallet supports this goal. This week, the European Commission is about to publish a new version of the #eIDAS regulation, which is expected to come into force this year. Our IDnow Digital Identity Index 2023 showed that many German citizens have already used remote identity verification processes several times: - 16% had utilized a VideoIdent process multiple times - 18% have gone through the identification in a post office branch more than once The usage indicates that there is a clear need in the market for digital identity solutions that can be reused for verification and authentication. 🚀 With our IDnow Wallet, we are spearheading this development in Europe and are changing the way identities are trusted in the digital world. Each milestone – like the partnership with netID – brings us closer toward becoming THE partner for trusted identities. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJjDpuBC
