Memorial Day in Orange County is more than just barbecues and parades. It's a time to honor our heroes and come together as a community. 🇺🇸 I remember last year, helping a retired couple downsize to a home that perfectly fit their new lifestyle. During our conversation, they shared their excitement about the local Memorial Day celebrations. It reminded me how deeply we are all connected by our history and our shared values. For many of us, especially baby boomers and retirees, moving can feel like a daunting task. But it's also an opportunity to create new traditions and embrace the vibrant culture of Orange County. Here are a few ways you can make the most of Memorial Day while transitioning to a new home: ✅ Attend local parades and events: Join the community in honoring our veterans. This year, we’re seeking to raise $2.5 million to bring water point access and maintenance and WASH education to more than 150,000 people in the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Cambodia.  Supporting our campaign, Let Hope Flow, means bringing safe water, sanitation and latrines to schools in Ethiopia so children like 11-year-old Derartu can pursue her dreams of finding a cure for HIV. The biggest learning we've had from our research into barriers to volunteering for people with lived experience of mental health is the need for safety. Many people are coming to volunteering through social prescribing and other referral routes with past negative experiences of support through their volunteering or paid work. Tools like the #BigHelpOut are a great chance for people to peek through the window of a charity and see what's it's like without committing. Annual Giving February Week 4: You have been working on your impact piece for quite some time now. And this is the week- it should do into the mail this week or next week. CONGRATULATIONS! You did it! You created a quality piece to tell your donors about the impact of their giving. Now we are going to start a week of transition. We are moving into a key strategic time of the year. Here's your next step: The list... You ran a donor list for your impact piece. This list includes information on people's previous year's giving and their cumulative lifetime giving. This list is gold! Use this list to figure out the top 10% of donors. First you need to determine how many donors you can have conversations with this year- maybe it's 10- maybe it's 20... whatever the number that is great. Now look at the list and figure out the best people to fill those slots - look at the list- who were your biggest givers last year? who are your largest givers over lifetime? These are the people that you are going to get to know better this year. (Don't worry we will work together on how to do this) Here is how to use your impact piece to activate your program: 1) Hand deliver impact piece to the people you identified above. 2) Call and alert the people you identified above that the impact piece is on the way. 3) Check in with these donors to make sure that the giving numbers stated on the impact piece match their records for giving.
