🤔 What is the most challenging? Finding, attracting or retaining #talent? 🤐 I am happy to join the upcoming #SiftedTalks panel on December 12th to discuss a topic that’s critical for startups: hiring and retaining top talent. The past months and years show that hypergrowth often results in overhiring and ultimately ends in lay-offs, which did cost especially startups millions if not billions of Euros. At FINN, we’ve seen firsthand how aligning hiring strategies with company values and creating a flexible, global approach to talent can transform a business. I’ll share insights on: ✅ Building hiring processes that reflect your mission. ✅ Retain talent through clear personal development paths. ✅ How you balance compensation right. Looking forward to engaging with Pedro Monteiro de Barros from Remote, Zoe Jervier Hewitt from Sequoia Capital and Tim Chong from Yonder. The panel will be hosted by the wonderful Miriam Partington who reports right from Berlin for Sifted. 🔗 Check out the first comment to register for the event on Dec 12! #Hiring #Talent #StartupLife

If a new venture focuses on its social mission when recruiting, people perceive it as having a longer path to profitability, slower growth, and limited potential for success—reducing the appeal for candidates prioritizing career opportunities or quick financial gains. A new firm’s emphasis on a social mission also might seem like a call to put your own needs aside. Established companies don’t have those problems when they tout a social vision. They’re known quantities with a lot of existing employees. They may have gotten some press coverage and even appeared on a “best places to work” list. They’re also assumed to have the resources to offer competitive pay and career opportunities and to invest in employee learning and growth. But start-ups are a blank slate and rely largely on communicating their vision.

How to attract top talent as a startup Had an interesting conversation with a founder friend recently, and he asked, “How can we win A-level talent from big companies?” I visualised some of our A-players and asked myself one question: “Why did they join Oneday?” The answer was glaringly obvious. ↳ Our mission 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 them. It’s very hard for early-stage companies to attract top talent, especially before Series A/B. The only tool that founders have in their arsenal is their 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯. Top talent has a mission of their own. Money is not enough. Meaning and impact can be a huge drawer. A clear and compelling mission makes you a magnet to A-players.
