    1. Europe Land Market growth potential is enormous with average rig market share of D&M+PF 2009-2011=5-10% only (which tie in to global
rig market share of combined segments-See appendix for more details).
    2. The Macro picture expected increase in Europe land market rig count in 2012-2016=17-30%
    3. Historically D&M has been focused on High Tier land Campaigns (Example: Stogit in Italy, OMV-Petrom in Romania, EMPG-XOM Germany,
etc.) which are complex, technology intensive, high Revenue/job (RJM) campaigns which require extensive resources (people, equipment,
    support, etc.).
    4. On the other hand the offshore-Deep water market in Mediterranean Sea is another growth area which will require focus, resources,
attention to flawless execution and delivery from D&M in Ravenna.
    5. The rationale behind the market segmentation Growth Strategy will be maintaining existing clients from any operational and/or execution
disruption while growing the rig Market Share after the 2012 transition period.

    Abstract

The continuous increase in demand for hydrocarbon resources has pushed the oil industry to look for additional recoverable resources in increasingly challenging environments. With new prospects, oil companies have to face new technical challenges everyday due to these conditions as well as stricter environmental and safety rules.

Offshore Libya is one of these challenging environments where drilling is high risk and where, for health safety and environmental (HSE) reasons, avoiding using radioactive materials in drilling and logging represents a great advantage by mitigating possible risks and costs. In order to overcome these new technical challenges and reduce cost, companies have to constantly evaluate new technology.

An advanced logging-while-drilling (LWD) platform that does not use a radioactive source provided a fully integrated advanced petrophysical evaluation capability, as well as a complete set of measurements to optimize drilling in a well in offshore Libya. To overcome environmental and safety constraints, the source less configuration provided a unique answer for formation evaluation in high risk drilling operations in offshore environments. A fully integrated real-time petrophysical analysis of data acquired while drilling thereby significantly reduced the need for additional measurements. This technology allows fulfillment of operational objectives by significantly decreasing the exposure to drilling risks and stuck pipe. This reduced

the time and cost required to properly characterize the reservoir and accommodate the strict regulations controlling radioactive material handling, without compromising the data completeness and quality.

The conventional EcoScope* technology has been used all over the world in offshore environment (especially in the North Sea). However, it is the first time the EcoScope* service has been deployed in an offshore drilling environment in its sourceless configuration.

  • Total BHA Reliability - An Improved Method to Measure Success

    IADC/ SPE 112664

Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) has been a traditional measure of equipment reliability. Abstract
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) has been a traditional measure of equipment reliability. In the drilling industry, MTBFs of some downhole directional drilling tools are exceeding 1,000 hours, indicating downhole tools have become more reliable and suggesting that tool failures are an unlikely event.
In 2005, ExxonMobil Development Company – Drilling initiated a study on Rotary Steerable System (RSS) and Formation Evaluation (FE) tool failures. Analysis indicated that globally, every third Bottom hole Assembly (BHA) was pulled because of an equipment-related failure. These results did not match the MTBF numbers provided from the service sector.
Further analysis indicated that MTBF is a good metric for a manufacturer to classify the statistical reliability of individual components in a consistent operations environment. However, it is not a good metric for measuring reliability of an entire BHA that consists of many components. As BHAs become more complex, the MTBF of single components must increase in order to maintain existing reliability of the total system.
ExxonMobil is now tracking the RSS performance by run success. This approach favors a total system strategy where each BHA component is evaluated based on its ability to optimize the reliability of the entire BHA.
The four elements of this strategy are:
    • Develop and maintain a reliable data base with defined global input to scale the problem
    • Implement a vendor assessment program to verify that suppliers have a global systematic approach to train staff and maintain tools
    • Align with suppliers about realistic load factors and operational envelopes for their tools
    • Train users how to select and operate tools for a given application

  • OGCI

OGCI’s strategy creates a framework for us to act with impact. The first pillar focuses us on achieving net zero emissions in our own operations and those we own. The second pillar focuses on our intention to proactively lead our peers across the oil and gas industry to reduce their own carbon emissions. And the third pillar focuses on helping to decarbonize society in areas such as heavy industry and transportation, while advancing new low carbon solutions at scale.

President Biden and President Von der Leyen announced at the September 17 Major Economies Forum (MEF) meeting that the United States and the European Union are inviting countries to support the Global Methane Pledge to be launched at COP 26 in November 2021 in Glasgow.

Participants joining the Pledge agree to take voluntary actions to contribute to a collective effort to reduce global methane emissions at least 30 percent from 2020 levels by 2030, which could eliminate over 0.2˚C warming by 2050. This is a global, not a national reduction target. Participants also commit to moving towards using the highest tier IPCC good practice inventory methodologies, as well as working to continuously improve the accuracy, transparency, consistency, comparability, and completeness of national greenhouse gas inventory reporting under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement, and to provide greater transparency in key sectors.

Responsible businesses enact the same values and principles wherever they have a presence, and know that good practices in one area do not offset harm in another. By incorporating the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity, companies are not only upholding their basic responsibilities to people and planet, but also setting the stage for long-term success.

Schlumberger believed that with our technology, people, drilling practices and experience that we would be a good partner to drill these wells and meet the objectives.
The two initial wells, Goldenstedt Z-21 and Z-25, would be drilled in tough, abrasive conditions with the
expectation of total loss of circulation in the faulted and fractured zones. Mature technologies such as the PowerDrive Xtra, MicroScope, PeriScope and AdnVISION services were used to proactively geosteer and fully characterize this unpredictable reservoir.
Every individual bespoke BHA was extensively engineered by D&M Drilling Engineering, utilizing i-DRILL,
IDEAS and DOX for specific applications and challenges identified during the offset analysis stage. The
BHA’s were designed for the high-friction formations and tailored to reduce the excessive Shock & Vibration, stick-slip, differential sticking, H2S and total losses through faulted and fractured zones. Given these factors, Smith consulted the Z-25 Drilling Engineering team to design a bit to be suited and used.

place them above KOP. Combined with low reservoir pressure and low static fluid level, efficiency of the
horizontal well does not reach desired level.
Solution to the problem was found in using twin wells: One vertical well is drilled for accommodating the pump below the reservoir level and horizontal well is drilled to intersect the vertical
    well to provide drainage section.

a depth of 15900 ft and estimation for static
    temperature was over 350 F.
HSE: due to local regulations and high risk of
getting stuck, any radioactive material was
    banned from the logging program.
Real Time Data: High drilling risk and hole stability issue that could result in a loss of data, as
well as real time interpretation and decision
making capabilities put the Real Time delivery
at the top of the priority list.
Reservoir Characterization: To be able to
evaluate a new reservoir, in carbonates
Schlumberger focused on delivering the best
quality most complete set of logs to achieve the
    goal.
EcoScope was proposed to provide a complete
    petrophysical evaluation logging capability, by
being able to provide Density without natural
radioactive source, in recorded mode as well as
in real time. This unique logging tool was able
to perform the logging in A1-NC202 and evaluate the main target reservoir section

Schlumberger Libya has seen considerable change in the past 12 months, in terms of Activity and the level of service expected. In Q4 2008, there was a clear step change in activity, moving from what was a traditionally land orientated operation to an offshore exploration GeoMarket with all the expectations that go with this. The number of LWD jobs increased by 300% in 6 months. The focus changed again in February 2009, when ExxonMobil brought forward their Deepwater exploration plan by 6months, with the intention of spudding by 1st May 2009. This left Schlumberger Libya with just 3 months to prepare and deliver a fully operating Deepwater Service out its supply and maintenance base in Tripoli. Any Deepwater project is high profile, with high cost and consequentially high risk. The additional focus that ExxonMobil expects and demands for the very highest standards required a global coordinated approach by Schlumberger.

landing the well on the other side of the fault and identify the top of the reservoir.
The modeling study show that Periscope was performing as expected and would have
been able to achieve these objectives.
Even more, the study shows that periscope would have been able to steer the well at the
top of the reservoir along the whole section of the well.
In that case Periscope would have minimized the drilling hazards, especially when crossing the fault. It would also have maximized the production and recovery by maintaining the well in the upper part of the reservoir, far away from the water and reducing drastically the attic oil.

objective of the teams in both ECA area level and NGA was to avoid the occurrence of gaps observed in EQG through knowledge sharing as a
global company through proper flow of communications between locations. The assessment took place between 11-18 Jan 2006 in the D&M base Port Harcourt and the results can be summarized by the following statement from the XOM report summary:
“We did find most of the standards were being met which is a testament that Schlumberger
employees here prescribe to using their company standards to perform work tasks. This is
refreshing and illustrates the power that when hard working smart people set out to do the right
    thing, it can be accomplished.”

  • Schlumberger Drilling & Measurements: MegaScope* defines the new LWD standard for Total in Nigeria

    Total

Through an integrated DCS and D&M sales plan, the contract to provide DD-MWD-LWD services was
awarded to D&M based on superior technologies, replacing Halliburton. Total required StethoScopeVision825 services in the 12 ¼” landing section of the well, and PeriScope-EcoScope-StethoScope with PowerDriveX5 in the 8 ½” section. With a previous PeriScope job for Total elsewhere in the world unsuccessful and with this the first “MegaScope” run made in NGA, the emphasis was on superb service…

With a previous PeriScope job for Total elsewhere in the world unsuccessful and with this the first “MegaScope” run made in NGA, the emphasis was on superb service delivery to ensure significant revenue addition for Schlumberger and superior well productivity for Total.
Both sections were drilled flawlessly with excellent data quality. The well placement team were able to use the PeriScope information to remain in the reservoir despite the thin target zone. The entire Scope suite were able to identify faults and determine if they compartmentalized the reservoir, adding significant value to the well.

In 2006, NGA had suffered from 1 CAT BHA twist off and five thread cracks for the same Non-Mag crossover sub between ARC8* and Powerpulse* (5-1/2” IF Pin x 6-5/8” FH Pin) which had serious impact on D&M reputation where a client like ExxonMobil refused to reuse the service unless they understand the root causes, close to $500K of red money losses in 2006 and serious concerns about the yield strength for that particular sub. NGA service delivery team proactively started the analysis using SLB-SCAT process to identify the root causes with the support of LWD sustaining team. The project had significant successes from redesigning the sub after calculating all the stress computations locally using DRILCO software program (Torsional yields, DS-1 CAT 3-5, BSR etc.) taking into considerations the impact on internal components such as extenders, future machinability and the make up torques applied on the rig site. NGA proactively field tested (more than 500 operating hours with 100% success rate) the new sub after the fabrication of four prototypes. The project triggered two global changes for sub redesign including material change to P550 (from the original P530), torque specifications and a transition plan to replace all existing old design subs in the field. A worldwide notification is expected to be issued in a Tech Alert for other locations to replace the old designed crossover subs (Number of subs in NGA only is more than 50 pcs).
