📅 Today is World Diabetes Day – a day to unite in raising awareness about #diabetes, a chronic health condition affecting millions worldwide. Diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly process sugar due to insufficient #insulin production or utilization, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. Without effective management, diabetes can lead to severe health issues, including #heartdisease, #kidneyfailure, and #visionloss. Why is awareness so important? Understanding diabetes empowers individuals to take preventive measures, recognize symptoms early, and support loved ones in managing the condition. One impactful way to generate awareness is by participating in or encouraging others to consider clinical trials. Clinical research helps us improve #treatments and enhances the quality of life for those with diabetes. Did you know that globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2024, compared to 108 million in 1980? The prevalence has nearly doubled, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in adults, with risk factors like being overweight or obese playing a major role. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower limb amputation—but it doesn’t have to be. Through a healthy diet, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco, type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or delayed. Treatment and regular screening can also help manage the disease and its complications. On 14 November, we observe World Diabetes Day to promote global efforts in improving health, access to treatment, and healthcare education. Let’s work together to raise awareness and fight diabetes. #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesAwareness #HealthMatters #PreventDiabetes #GlobalHealth #HealthyLiving
