Did you know that globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2024, compared to 108 million in 1980? The prevalence has nearly doubled, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in adults, with risk factors like being overweight or obese playing a major role. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower limb amputation—but it doesn’t have to be. Through a healthy diet, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco, type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or delayed. Treatment and regular screening can also help manage the disease and its complications. On 14 November, we observe World Diabetes Day to promote global efforts in improving health, access to treatment, and healthcare education. Let’s work together to raise awareness and fight diabetes. #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesAwareness #HealthMatters #PreventDiabetes #GlobalHealth #HealthyLiving

📅 Today is World Diabetes Day – a day to unite in raising awareness about #diabetes, a chronic health condition affecting millions worldwide. Diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly process sugar due to insufficient #insulin production or utilization, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. Without effective management, diabetes can lead to severe health issues, including #heartdisease, #kidneyfailure, and #visionloss. Why is awareness so important? Understanding diabetes empowers individuals to take preventive measures, recognize symptoms early, and support loved ones in managing the condition. One impactful way to generate awareness is by participating in or encouraging others to consider clinical trials. Clinical research helps us improve #treatments and enhances the quality of life for those with diabetes. 🌟 A Wake-Up Call on Diabetes 🌟 My mum sent me this link, to a Channel 4 News program about diabetes. I often receive articles on blood sugar, diabetes and all things health related due to my personal interest in wellness, especially after my own encounter with the disease a few years ago, which led to my near obsession with metabolic health. Few articles however, hit home like this one. It was emotional watching people suffer from severe, life-changing situations caused by Type 2 diabetes. No one should loose a limb or go blind due to a lack of awareness around the impact of the foods we eat. Sadly, they also reported that 3.2 million people in the UK are currently diagnosed with Diabetes (not counting those with Pre-Diabetes, which likely triples this figure). The other week I was having a coffee with Ben Calderhead (our Co-Founder) and Sam Feltham from PHC (Public Health Colaboration - an amazing organisation you should follow for the science of all things metabolic health), and Sam shared a devastating statistic: 25 people lose a limb every single day due to Type 2 diabetes. Let that sink in — 25 people every day in the UK alone. What’s worse is that this epidemic is mainly driven by diet and lifestyle which means it’s preventable. Blood sugar goes out of control when high level of carbs are consumed (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all snacks in between), leading to insulin resistance, which is at the heart of many if not most metabolic diseases, including diabetes. Surely this largely preventable tragedy calls for increased awareness about our food choices? We must do more. #DiabetesAwareness #MetabolicHealth #PreventiveCare #HealthWellness https://lnkd.in/e5gr59tA

With over 537 million people affected worldwide, diabetes stands as one of the most widespread health challenges today. Diabetes manifests in different forms, including Type 1, where the body lacks the ability to produce insulin, and Type 2, where the body struggles with insulin use. Each type demands daily management, from monitoring blood glucose levels to adapting lifestyle and dietary habits, underscoring the need for ongoing education and awareness. Prevention and early detection can drastically reduce the complications associated with diabetes, making public awareness essential. Let us all take action by spreading knowledge, advocating for healthier lifestyles, and supporting those on their journey with diabetes. At MedLife, we are deeply grateful to healthcare providers who dedicate their lives to guiding patients, advocating for better care, and supporting hope in the global fight against diabetes. #MedLife #WorldDiabetesDay #14november #DiabetesAwareness #FightDiabetes #DiabetesEducation #DiabetesPrevention #BlueForDiabetes #DiabetesCareMatters #Type1Diabetes #Type2Diabetes #DiabetesWarrior #BloodSugarControl #PreventDiabetes #DiabetesResearch #HealthMatters #InsulinForAll #KnowYourRisk #unitedstatesofamerica

Recent research from the Cholesterol Treatment Trialists’ (CTT) Collaboration reveals a significant link between statin use and an increased risk of new-onset diabetes, particularly for high-intensity statin users. While statins lower the risk of major vascular events, like heart attacks, they also moderately increase the risk of developing diabetes, with high-intensity statins raising that risk by 36%. This highlights a crucial trade-off between reducing heart disease and increasing diabetes risk, especially for those on high doses of statins. If you're concerned about the balance between managing cholesterol and protecting against diabetes, it’s important to discuss alternative options with your healthcare provider. Personalized strategies, such as adjusting lifestyle factors, might reduce your need for high-intensity statins while still protecting your heart health. Take control of your health today! #HeartHealth #DiabetesRisk #Statins #CholesterolManagement #PreventativeCare #HealthyChoices

The CDC reports that about 7.3 million adults in the U.S. have undiagnosed diabetes, accounting for approximately 23% of the total diabetic population. This statistic reflects the silent progression of the disease, where nearly 1 in 4 individuals with diabetes remain unaware of their condition, often until complications develop. Regular screenings and awareness are crucial for early detection and management. Detecting diabetes early can be life-changing. Early signs include frequent urination, excessive thirst, and unexplained fatigue. Simple blood tests such as fasting glucose tests or A1C measurements can help diagnose diabetes before serious complications arise. When detected early, diabetes can often be managed through lifestyle changes and, in some cases, even reversed, reducing the risk of heart disease, nerve damage, and kidney failure. To ensure your health is on track, drop a comment to talk to a healthcare expert today and get a personalized plan for early detection and management. #type2diabetesprevention #diabetestype2 #diabeteslife #diabetesmanagement #diabetescare #diabetescommunity #diabetesfood #diabetesawarenessmonth #diabetessupport #diabetesprevention #diabeteseducation #heald #type2diabetes #diabetes #diabetesawareness #prediabetes #getheald
