📰 NEW NEWS: Stroke Rates Are Rising, Especially Among the Young 📰 The key study takeaways HealthDay News shared included: • ⬆ Stroke rates are rising among Americans overall, but younger people – ahem, Gen Z’s + Millennials - have charted the sharpest increases over the past decade. Notably, U.S. News & World Report also called out how Ohio and Tennessee saw the most significant increases in stroke prevalence over the study period! • ⬆ Rising rates of obesity and high blood pressure are probably contributing to the trend. • 🍓 Lifestyle factors (like diet, drinking, physical activity and nicotine use) are key in reducing your odds for a stroke. What can employers do? Heart disease and stroke are the most expensive 💸 (and preventable!) medical conditions for businesses in the U.S. Employers can take a proactive role in promoting employee heart and brain health by offering workplace health programs that focus on preventing heart disease and stroke. #NationalStrokeAwarenessMonth #AmericanStrokeMonth #strokeawareness #strokeprevention #hearthealth #genz #millennial

DID YOU KNOW that living with excess body fat equates to an increase risk of various cancer, dementia, Alzheimer's, heart attack, stroke, and an array of chronic health conditions? DID YOU KNOW that if you do NOTHING to lose that excess body fat, you will not live as long, and your quality of life is reduced each year you live? DID YOU KNOW that in 1960, about 13 percent of the United States population was obese, and today, we are nearing 45 percent? And nearly 70 percent of black women are obese, and a little over 60 percent of Hispanic women are obese. Each year obesity grows and MOST people do NOTHING to improve their situation. This is unbelievable. The amount of people that are unhealthy is at pandemic levels, and MOST people just keep on keeping on. For nearly 30 years I've been helping people lose weight without feeling like they're on a diet, get off medications, and improve overall health for years. My success rate is extremely high, but then again, most people choose to do NOTHING and just let time go by. I'm writing a new book, and I would love to get your thoughts on why the health of people continues to rise and people continue to do NOTHING? Help me understand why even those who read this post and are obese, taking medications, and living with sickness will do NOTHING. Thanks in advance.

Functional Decline: The Silent Thief of Youth—Here’s How to Fight Back Caption: Aging is a natural process of progressive change over time, leading to the decline in physical, cognitive, and biological functions. But did you know that this decline, often driven by chronic conditions, is linked to premature death? Here’s how to recognize the signs and take action to fight back against functional decline! Understanding Aging: Aging isn’t just about getting older; it’s the accumulation of changes in the body’s cells, tissues, and organs that lead to gradual loss of function and increased vulnerability to disease. Over time, conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive decline take a toll, affecting everyday activities like walking, bathing, and even managing finances. This can lead to frailty and early death if not addressed. The Facts: • 85% of people over 65 have at least one chronic condition, and 60% have two or more. • Adults over 70 spend up to 50% of their remaining years dealing with chronic illnesses and disabilities, impacting their independence and quality of life. • Functional decline and frailty significantly increase the risk of early mortality. Take Action: 1. Stay Active: Regular exercise keeps muscles strong, supports mobility, and improves mental health. 2. Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients to fuel your body and reduce inflammation. 3. Preventative Care: Regular check-ups and proactive management of chronic conditions can slow the decline. Your future health is shaped by the choices you make today. Don’t let functional decline steal your best years—fight back with strategic, intentional action. #Longevity #HealthyAging #FunctionalDecline #Healthspan #AgingWell #PreventativeCare

Most afternoons, I take a break from work and go for a walk. There are so many benefits to simply walking every day that it's actually quite incredible. A Stanford University study found that a person’s creative output increased by an average of 60 percent when walking. Also, research shows walking just 30 minutes a day can reduce your risk of heart disease, obesity, stroke, diabetes, anxiety, depression, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, dementia and stress by up to 50 percent. Similarly, a study of over 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once a week or less. And if they did get sick, it was for a shorter duration, and their symptoms were milder. The short answer is that walking 20-30 mins a day is one of the most important things you can do for both your own health and your productivity. Go for a walk! #productivity #workproductivity #walking

Dementia and Alzheimer’s are projected to become the leading cause of death in the next 10 years. Shockingly, black individuals are 4 times more likely to develop these conditions than Caucasians, with Hispanics at 2.7 times higher risk. Surprisingly, less than 3% of the risk is attributed to genetics, highlighting the immense impact of lifestyle choices on prevention – a whopping 97% is preventable through lifestyle modifications. Similar to type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, lifestyle plays a crucial role in the development and management of chronic health conditions. Understanding how to eat well is a fundamental aspect of a healthy lifestyle, far beyond just physical appearance. As someone with 29 years of experience in helping individuals successfully navigate their health journey, I am eager to share my knowledge and clinically proven strategies. It's essential to recognize that drugs and medications offer temporary relief, acting as a bandaid rather than addressing the root cause. Many healthcare professionals lack the necessary understanding in this area. I aim to provide a solution that focuses on reducing health risks, achieving weight loss, and empowering individuals with vital information to support their loved ones. If you are interested in learning more about how to proactively manage your health and well-being, feel free to message me or reach out via email at [email protected]. There is need to change in our good habits and focus on physical activity too.. According to a recent Lancet report, managing diabetes is more than just addressing blood sugar levels—it’s also about addressing mental health challenges that often accompany the condition: 36% of people with diabetes experience diabetes distress, a range of negative emotions like anger, fear, and guilt. People with diabetes are 2-3 times more likely to develop depression and 20% more likely to develop anxiety. Disordered eating is twice as common, with diabulimia (insulin omission to lose weight) prevalent among women with type 1 diabetes and binge-eating affecting women with type 2 diabetes. The report highlights that 63% of patients fear complications, significantly impacting their well-being. Moreover, 28% struggle to remain positive, underscoring the urgent need for better mental health support within diabetes care systems. While diabetes is largely self-managed, the relentless demands of monitoring, medication, and lifestyle changes can lead to burnout. The Lancet calls for integrated psychosocial and medical care to improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals with diabetes. This research is a powerful reminder to prioritize both mental and physical health in chronic disease management. Let's advocate for a more compassionate and holistic approach to healthcare. #DiabetesCare #MentalHealth #HealthWellness #PublicHealth
