If in Singapore/APAC in May, I highly recommend this conference. From past experience it had some of the most interesting, balanced and diverse perspectives on the panel discussions. It’s also run by the very brilliant Isabelle DECITRE a pioneer founder, investing in some of the most interesting agrifood technologies emerging today, to improve the global food system for all stakeholders. #futurefoodasia #ideasworthsharing #IDCapital #sustainablebusiness #innovation #betterfuture #betterbusiness #investment #startupecosystem #startupfunding

Strasbourg Plenary session : if you don't post, your visit is not complete! I've come to Strasbourg to introduce FoodDrinkEurope to some new MEPs and to catch up with + present our priority messages to returning MEPs and APAs. What were those messages? ➡️ Food and drink manufacturing is part of a value chain. We call for policymakers to adopt a "value chain" approach when developing policy and legislation. ➡️ Food and drink processing represents the largest manufacturing sector in Europe. We want to be consistently recognised as a strategic sector. ➡️ FoodDrinkEurope remains supportive of the green transition, but calls for a constructive dialogue on the instruments, financial needs, collaborations and market conditions to accelerate this transition. ➡️ European agri-food should not be victim of commercial tensions that have nothing to do with our sector. ➡️ When discussing the EU industrial competitiveness (or lack thereof), we want policymakers to remember that we are part of this debate. Our industry has to do with traditions (culinary ones), cultures and has a centuries-long history, but it's also an industry that invests in research, innovation and development and that is crucial for the future of each individual European.

The EU food and drink industry is a catalyst for industrial growth, sustainability and security in Europe. 🍽️ 🌍 🛡 FoodDrinkEurope has unveiled a 5-step plan for EU policymakers to unleash our potential to lead the world on sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness. 💶 Stimulate investment 👩🔬 Support innovation 🚢 Boost trade and secure supply 📜 Design better regulation 👩💼 Improve governance “EU food and drink makers number nearly 300,000 businesses, with nine out of ten employing fewer than 20 people. Yet they contribute €110 billion in wages annually, purchase 70% of all EU farm produce, and invest over €2 billion in innovative, sustainably-produced products." "With the right support, we have the ability to significantly enhance Europe's competitiveness, provide societal stability, and invest in resilient food systems." - Dirk Jacobs, Director General of FoodDrinkEurope See the full 5-step plan for a sustainable and competitive #FoodFuture in Europe ⬇

The participation of all actors and their perspectives are essential for designing #sustainable #food systems in Europe. So, how can we ensure that the same exists in the building of the EU Partnership that #FOODPathS is supporting? 🤔 💡 This was the theme of our partner ICLEI Europe's first Mirror Group meeting today, where approximately 20 experts "played" with puzzle pieces to reflect on governance, funding, and other critical parts of an ideal and effective collaboration. Do you want to know more about the #FOODPathS mirror groups? 1️⃣ Visit this website ⏩ https://lnkd.in/gRirddKY 2️⃣ Have a look at the leaflet in which we present the results of a survey we conducted with stakeholders on how to increase the inclusion of actors in the food systems transformation process.

It’s a wrap! Yesterday, EJD hosted a session at the #Openfoodconference in Leuven, hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024! Our panel on #OpenStrategicAutonomy and #Sustainability in the European food system sparked enriching debates. Thanks to Alan Matthews, Geneviève Pons-Deladrière and Sergi Corbalán for having shared their diverse insights, and to our moderator Cláudia Azevedo for facilitating such an interesting discussion on striking the balance between self-sufficiency and sustainability. Key takeaways: 🌾 AGRICULTURE: Open Strategic Autonomy does not mean autarchy. Trade is an essential part of a resilient agri-food system. We need policies to reduce negative externalities and incentivise trade flows based not only on economic efficiency but also environmental and social sustainability. This includes going beyond opening the EU market to support our partner countries in their own pursuit of food sovereignty. 🌍 TRADE: The EU should engage in an open and proactive dialogue with trade partners to continue ensuring quality and sustainability of imported agri-food products. The EU has to “decolonise” trade, by recognising the value of other countries’ approaches in regulation and pursue equivalency between standards. 🇪🇺 AT HOME: External dependencies are not the only or even the primary cause of vulnerabilities in our food system. For greater food security and environmental sustainability of our agri-food sector we need to address the extensive use of fertilisers and pesticides, high levels of meat consumption and food waste in the EU. Sustainability is essential to build a secure food system and can only be achieved if its environmental, economic and social dimensions both in the EU and abroad are fully considered. #EU2024BE

Yesterday, ambassador for Business and Development Marchel Gerrmann joined an event hosted by IDH and VNO-NCW to develop an action plan for ensuring continuity and sustainability in global agrifood supply chains. 🌾🌱 As Marchel Gerrmann highlighted: "International agrifood production and trade are essential for global food security, and the Netherlands plays a key role in this effort. However, we have to address limits imposed by both planetary and social boundaries. The upcoming EU legislation offers opportunities for businesses within and outside the EU to innovate and grow. An integrated aid, trade and investment agenda is vital to unlock these opportunities and drive forward food security and sustainable economic development.” Let’s work together and contribute to a more resilient, sustainable agrifood ecosystem. 🌍 #Sustainability #Agrifood #FoodSecurity #Innovation #Trade #Development
