2025: A Year of Opportunities and Challenges for F&B in Asia As we approach 2025, Asia’s food and beverage industry is set to navigate a complex landscape of opportunities and challenges. With shifting consumer priorities, sustainability demands, and global uncertainties, adaptability will be key for businesses looking to thrive. Affordability has become a top priority for consumers, making value-for-money products more appealing than ever. Sustainability is no longer optional—eco-friendly practices, including plant-based alternatives and innovative packaging, are shaping the industry’s future. Health and wellness are front and center, with a growing demand for products that promote mental and physical well-being. Meanwhile, busy lifestyles are driving the need for convenience, from longer shelf lives to easy-to-prepare options. Luxury non-essential items, like premium wines, are losing appeal as consumers tighten their budgets. To succeed in this evolving market, brands must embrace innovation and offer customized, region-specific solutions that cater to increasingly savvy and connected buyers. Turning a Spud into a Quality Snack with the Right Equipment Potato chips are a top seller in the competitive snack food market, where maintaining quality and consistency is key to success. Achieving that perfect, crispy chip relies heavily on the frying process. With the right equipment, precise control of frying time and temperature is possible, considering factors like potato variety and slice thickness. Higher frying temperatures can reduce oil absorption, but if not managed carefully, excessive heat can lead to oil breakdown and compromise chip quality. During frying, oil deterioration is caused by reactions such as hydrolysis, oxidation, and polymerization. These factors can affect both the flavour and shelf life of the chips. Proper equipment and careful oil management help maintain the integrity of the product, ensuring that the end result is a chip that looks and tastes great. Thailand's pet food producers were advised by the Hiroshima office of the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to focus on exporting cat food to Japan due to the rising popularity of cats as pets, particularly among senior citizens. Cats have overtaken dogs as the most popular pets in Japan since 2014, with more Japanese households owning cats than children under 15. In 2023, cats were present in 8.7% of households. Pet spending trends show a decline in per capita spending on dogs, while spending on cats has increased, making cat ownership more affordable. Thailand ranked as the 6th largest exporter of pet foods globally in 2022 and the 3rd for dog and cat foods, with Japan emerging as the second-largest market after the US. This growing preference for cats is not limited to Japan but is spreading across Asia, presenting promising opportunities for pet food producers. How do you see this trend influencing the global pet food market?
